HP ENVY 4510/4520
macOS 10.14 Mojave

Device: HP ENVY 4510/4520

Operating System: MAC 10.14

Internet Connection: Wireless

When printing the colors black, the printer skip lines. Whole sections of documents do not print.

I've already reset the printer and shook up the ink cartridges.

It is not a software issue: the printer is up to date.

It is not a connection issue: the problem persists during print tests.

Would appreciate any feedback!

A warm welcome to HP Forums! This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips to your technical queries.

Power resetting the printer and then performing an automated/manual cleaning may resolve the issue. Let's try these steps:

1) Make sure this printer is plugged into a direct wall, not a surge protector

2) Remove all of your ink cartridges from the printer and close the door

3) Remove the power cord from the back of the printer (Do no press the power button)

4) Clean the ink cartridges, refer to solution 3 from this document.

5) Plug the power cord back into the printer

6) Wait for the printer to turn on completely, then install the ink cartridges.

7) On the printer control panel, swipe the display to the left, and then touch Setup.

😎 Touch Tools.

9) Open the Printer Maintenance or Tools menu.

10) Touch Clean Page Smears or Clean Smear.

11.) From the printer control panel, open the Setup  menu.

12.) Swipe up on the display, and then touch Clean Page Smears.

13.) On the printer control panel, swipe the display to the left, then touch Setup.

14.) Touch Tools, then touch Clean Cartridges. Click Yes when prompted to perform the next level of cleaning.

Let me know how it goes!

I was having the same issue. Skipping lines printing from either of my two laptops. I replaced my toner cartridges and my print job printed perfectly! I was ready to toss the printer and figured I'd try this as a last resort. Hope this works for anyone else having the same issue.

If you have performed all the troubleshooting steps from this document HP Printers - Black or Color Ink Not Printing, Other Print Quality Issues and still have issues, it could be a hardware failure.

I have done all the troubleshooting as well and it appears it is a hardware problem. Please help me figure this out.
