I cannot print from my laptop to the printer.  Every couple of months this happens.  I have tried unplugging the mains lead for 30 seconds but this makes no difference. I have to say this is getting very frustrating and makes me wonder whether I should have purchased another product.  Can you please help. Many thanks.

@NEILJCHELT,

I read your super quick response. it is wonderful to have you back. Great efforts and immense resolve displayed by you to try and get the situation corrected. Kudos to you for a job well done.  As @Flower_Bud is out for the day, I am replying to you.

let's try these steps now:

if the issue continues, then perform these steps to uninstall and reinstall the printer drivers at the root level:

  • In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.
  • Select your HP printer.
  • Select Uninstall.
  • In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.
  • In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”
  • Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.
  • Type printui.exe /s and click OK.
  • Click on Drivers tab.
  • Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click Remove at the bottom.
  • Select OK.
  • Remove all instances of the same.
  • Select Apply and OK on the Print Server Properties windows.
  • Close Devices and Printers.
  • Restart the PC again.

Then download the latest full feature driver from https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-envy-5640-e-all-in-one-printer-series/6583033/mo... selecting the correct operating system.

Connect the printer to your computer only when the setup prompts for the printer.

This should fix it for you.

If this does not do the trick, please download the Windows Built-in drivers by following instructions from this link: http://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c01796879

Other things to try:

  • Run all the latest Windows 10 updates and install them correctly on the computer.
  • Then check by printing from multiple apps like MS Word or Adobe Reader. Run all the latest MS Office updates if you print frequently from Word or Excel or other MS Office apps.
  • Uninstall reinstall the latest version of the apps that you print from.

This should work for you.

Good luck and keep me posted about the developments. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue and give the post a Kudos for my efforts to help. Thank you and have a great week ahead. 🙂

@NEILJCHELT

Welcome to the HP Forums 🙂

I would like to take a moment and thank you for using this forum, it is a great place to find answers.

As I understand, you're unable to print from your printer,

No worries, as I'll be glad to help you, that said, I'll need a few more details to dissect your concern & provide an accurate solution:

What is the operating system on the PC?

What is the error message while trying to print?

Are you able to make a copy?

Once I have the information, I'll help you further with troubleshooting steps,

Keep me posted,

Cheers!

Hi

Thanks for your reply.

In answer to your questions:

What is the operating system on the PC? - Windows 10

What is the error message while trying to print? - no error message.  Though an odd box talking about scanner not linked did appear.

Are you able to make a copy?  yes.

I am using an Asus laptop.

Hi

Thank you for your long reply.

Some of the ideas did not work, but I eventually - after a lot of fiddling - manage to use the link to reinstall the drivers which worked.

Many thanks
