When I upgraded to Sierra I learned the HP Scan software I had been using for years is not compatible. Through this forum I learned that HP Easy Scan is compatible so I downloaded and installed it. With HP Easy Scan now installed and functioning, I'm able to scan most documents with no issues. The one exception is my legal sized documents. The drop down in settings gives me options for A4 and letter-sized originals but nothing for legal. I'm sure it is just my unfamiliarity with this new software. I imagine there has to be a way to do this but I'm just a little impatient because this last issue trying to resolve the HP Scan incompatibility has left me with quite a backlog. Can someone give me a quick hint as to how to get HP Easy Scan to scan my legal-sized original documents? Thanks.

Hi,
Open HP Easy Scan and be sure to select your scanner.
Click te Presets menu and select Edit Settings.
Ensure the Type is set as Document and then Set the Source as Document Feeder or Automatic.
from the Crop To drop-down menu select US Legal.
Click the Gear icon next to the Presets menu and select Save As to save the current congfiguration as a Preset for a later use and press the Done button.

Shlomi

ShlomiL:
I'm following you but I have a problem. I've done the following, per your guidance:
1. I opened HP Easy Scan.
2. I selected my scanner (Photosmart Prem C410 series [36330A]) - note that this is the ony device I have and it is the only device in the menu.
3. I clicked the Presets menu.
4. I selected Edit Settings.
5. I set the Type as Document.
6. I set the Source as Automatic (since I do both flat bed and document feed scanning).
7. However, when I try to set Crop To, US Legal is not an option. The only three options it will allow me to select are either None, A4 or US Letter. There are 5 grayed-out options that I can't select but US Legal is not even one of them. (The grayed-out options are: 4 X 6; 5 X 7; 6 X 8; 8 X 10; and A5).

May you see other options at the Crop To menu while setting the Source As Document Feederi?
As US Legal is not supported from the Flatbed Glass, it may not be shown unless specifically selecting the Document Feeder.
Please let me know if it may make any difference, I will try testing it myself once having access to the specific printer...
If it is still not listed, can you see US Legal as an option from Image Capture (Under Applications)?

ShlomiL:
1. I selected Source as Document Feeder. No change. US Legal is still not an option in Crop To. Options rmain the same.
2. I went into Image Capture and US Legal is not an option there, either. Just A4 and US Letter.
Interesting observation, though. When I start Image Capture, Photosmart Prem C410 series [36330A} briefly appears in the left panel under Devices. However, that description changes to ***Generic*** after just a few seconds. Is that normal?

I would say it is not a normal behavior as much as I aware..
Try enforcing any update as following:
- Click the Apple icon, then About This Mac,
- Click Software Update.
- Click the top Store menu and select Reload Page.
- Allow it to complete the search, then install any listed Apple or HP Update, restart your Mac and try scanning again.
If the same persists, go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners, remove the listed printer by clicking the minus sign.
Next re-add the printer by cicking the plus sign, ensure the HP Photosmart C410 option is selected within the Use drop-down menu and click the Add button, then try scanning and check for any difference.
If the problem remains, once double clicking the printer under Printers & Scanners, what is the listed driver version?

I tried the Apple forced update, following your instructions (Software Update, Store Menu, Reload Page). It searched for a couple of minutes but came back "No Updates Available."
I deleted the printer and readded it. No difference. US Legal is an option under Default Paper Size when I open the printer through Preferences. However, it is not an option in either the HP Easy Scan nor in the Image Capture applications.
The listed driver version is 2.0

Hi,
Are you sure you have selected the printer model instead the default AirPrint option within the Use drop down menu once added the printer? as version 2.0 should be an AirPrint driver.
Please ensure you select it, if the same version remains download and install the following package, then remove and re-add the printer, the listed driver version should be 4.0.5 with the latest HP driver selected:

Please keep me posted with any change,
Shlomi

I guess I'm doing something wrong. I went back and deleted the printer, again, and then readded it. This time, I got driver version 4.2.2 but still no US Legal option in either HP Easy Scan or Image Capture. And the printer still doe sthat thing where it changes to ***Generic*** a few seconds after the app starts.
