Hi @OldPlean,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are facing an issue with your HP Envy 4500 is stuck in an unresponsive state despite all the components moving, which can be frustrating. Here are a few troubleshooting steps to resolve this issue:
1. Check for Error Codes
- Even though the LCD panel is fully working, check if any error codes or warnings appear on the screen. Sometimes a hidden error could be causing the device to hang.
2. Reset the Printer Again (Hard Reset)
- Unplug the Printer: Disconnect the printer from the power source.
- Wait for 1-2 minutes: This allows any residual power to drain and resets the printer's internal memory.
- Press the Power Button: While unplugged, press and hold the power button for 10 seconds.
- Reconnect the Printer: Plug it back in and turn it on.
- This should reset the printer's internal circuitry and may help it recover from a temporary software glitch.
3. Check Ink Cartridges and Paper Feed
- Ensure Ink Cartridges Are Installed Correctly: Double-check that the cartridges are seated properly and there are no issues with them, like being empty or blocked.
- Paper Jams: Even if the rollers are turning, there may be a paper jam somewhere in the mechanism that's causing the printer to hang.
4. Update Printer Firmware Update the firmware on an HP printer
- HP Software: Use the HP Smart app or HP Support Assistant to check if your printer's firmware is up-to-date. If not, updating it could solve bugs causing the printer to freeze.
- Windows Update: Check for updates in Windows 11 to make sure your operating system is compatible with the printer.
5. Try a Different Printer Driver
- Sometimes, the default printer driver could be corrupted.
- Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners on Windows 11 and remove the HP Envy 4500 printer.
- Reinstall the printer using the HP Smart app or by downloading the latest drivers from the HP Support website.
- Make sure to select the correct model and follow the installation instructions carefully.
6. Disconnect from All Devices (Clear Connections)
- If you're using the printer wirelessly, try disconnecting it from the network, then reconnect it by following the on-screen instructions.
- For wired connections, ensure that the USB or Ethernet cable is securely connected.
7. Check HP Print and Scan Doctor HP Print and Scan Doctor
- Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool from HP’s official website. It can diagnose and fix a wide range of printer-related issues.
8. Perform a Factory Reset
- If none of the above steps work, you may want to perform a factory reset to clear any errors.
- To do this, go to the printer's settings menu and look for the "Restore Factory Defaults" option. This will erase all your settings, so make sure you note any important information, like your Wi-Fi credentials, before resetting.
