HP Envy 4520 AIO
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

have an HP Envy 4520 that I have instaink subscription with.  Here is all of my specs & what not.  Then I will follow with my irritating issues.

I am running an HP ProBook 640 G1; Intel i5; Windows 10 Pro 64 bit (cant upgrade to 11); Netgear Nighthawk 6210 Router & Nighthawk R6400 Router; and Google Nest Router; my laptop and printer are on their own wifi with the Netgear 6210 nothing else is on that router.  I have unistalled and reinstalled multiple times the HP Smart App, I have also went to the secret menu on the printer and selected semi-full factory reset.  To witch neither of these has resolved my issue. My issue has been a thorn in my rear for the last 3 years since I relocated my printer to a new house.

 ISSUES!!
1) I can not access anything due to the Web Services being locked down; I know I set it up when I received my  printer several several years ago. However, I can not find the paper that the info is written down on.  I have preformed several semi-full resets on the printer using the touchpad, I have not found an option for a full reset. This reset seems to do nothing but change the printer email address and make me re-add it to my instaink account.

2) I can not print in color thanks to Issue 1

3) The only option for any kind of printing, no color, not set up on page correctly, basically I am wasting Ink & Paper, seriously. Is to send an email from my phone or laptop to the printer and then I get what I get for printing..

4) Print quality when it does actually print is not even close to what it used to print, I have ran the print head cleaning, again this is the only option I have everything else is lockdown.

There has got to be someone out there that has figured some way around all of this with this printer, I have searched the internet and tried everything I have found related to the issues for troubleshooting and none of them work or even attempt to fix the issues.

I received an email a few days ago from HP offering me to upgrade to the Instaink Platinum Program, I very much considered it up until I realized the two printers they are offering are lower quality printers and I can not print Microsoft Office Documents, like seriously HP.. So I am not sure what the heck to do, I love this printer but I am beyond sick and tired of trying to get the issues fixed once and for all ..

Please Help!!!!

Welcome to the HP Community.

Printers require the installation of the Full Feature Software / full driver printer software to print Office documents.

I am not aware of any new printers that lack the ability to install printer software for Windows 10 / Windows 11.

Reminder:  The full driver printer software is not the same thing as "HP Smart" application.

You can certainly ask the "Is there software" question of HP for any replacement printer models.

If you know the model name, we can check.

True - HP Smart - Windows is not (at this writing) able to print Word documents, though if you Export the Word document to PDF, HP Smart is happy to print that file.

Untrue - Web Services is not "locked down" on this printer (else Instant Ink would not be available or work with the printer).

It is true that on some older printers, the support for Web Services has been discontinued.  It is not the case for your printer.

Reference

Web Services has been discontinued on some older printers (as listed)

Web Services Notice

True - Web Services sometimes has trouble staying connected - sometimes the troubles are regional.

Contact Instant Ink Support if you have trouble with Web Services.

------------------------------------------------------------

Resets, including Semi and the Full options, will not likely impact Web Services.

Web services supports the printer connection to the Internet.

I will not argue the point, however, and I do not pretend to understand your setup.

If any of these networks to which you are connected - or have tried to connect are "Dual Band",

know that your printer can only use the 2.4GHz frequency.

Wireless
802.11 b/g/n – 2.4 GHz networks only

Short version

Set the router to broadcast on both frequencies.

Assign a separate SSID network name to each band.

Connect the printer to the SSID network it should use.

Let the router manage the traffic.

Example - Dual Band Network - Considerations

SSID_Dual_Band_Example_9SSID_Dual_Band_Example_9

If you have not done so,

Consider changing the printer connection (on the computer) to TCP/IP

Method - Create TCP IP port

** Install – Optional - Port Issues - Create a TCP/IP port **

TCP/IP can resolve odd connection, scanning, and installation problems.

Create / Switch to a TCP/IP Port to facilitate communication and prevent ‘offline’ issues

How-to “Create TCP Port” Contributed by  greenturtle:

  1. 1. Print a Configuration Page to get the printer's IPv4 address (you can also tap on the wireless icon on the Front panel of your Printer to get the IP address)
    2. On your PC, go to Control Panel, from Devices and Printers, Right-Click the printer and Left-Click Printer Properties, select the Ports tab.
    3. Click Add Port, select Standard TCP/IP Port, then select New Port and follow the wizard.
    4. Type in the proper IP address for the printer.

This video resource will show you how to do it:
Create & Use TCP IP port

Note that you can ALWAYS revert back to the original port that the HP software installed by selecting the HP port within the Ports tab (in Printer Properties)
