HP ENVY 4520
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

The printer is connected with wireless network.

Since a few months when i try to print , i receive the message  "printer is offline".

I have to strat the HP doctor and restart and then it is OK again.

Also when i am printing and i ask to print next document , the printer slows down and sometimes stops printing and then says it is offline.

I only have this issue with the laptops at home, not with my moble phone.

Greetings!

Welcome to the HP Community. This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips to your technical queries. I have reviewed your post and I understand, there's an issue with printer offline error.

Don't worry, I'm here to help!

Let's try these steps -

Step 1 HP Print and Scan Doctor -

Download and run HP Print and Scan Doctor from here.

Step 2 Re-install the printer drivers -

1) In the search box, type and open "Uninstall a Program".
2) Look for HP Printer software.
3) Right-click to uninstall.
4) In the search box, type
and open “Devices and printers”.
5) In the Devices and Printers, look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose “Delete” or “Remove Device”.
6) Open the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.
7) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”).
8) Click on the "Drivers" tab.
9) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click “Remove” at the bottom.
10) Select Ok.
11) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows.
12) Close Devices and Printers Once the software and drivers are removed.
13) Restart the computer.
14) Download and install the software and drivers from here.

If the issue still persists, try assigning a static IP to the printer -

1) Print a Network configuration page from the printer's control panel.
2) Look for IP address from the Network configuration page.
3) Open web browser - Chrome or IE or any other browser that you are using.
4) Type the IP address mentioned on Network configuration page into the browser's address bar or URL bar and press enter button.
5) Go to the Network tab.
6) Click on Networking from the left pane.
7) Then click on Network Address (IP).
8) Click on Manual IP Address and go to suggest a Manual IP.
9) Scroll down the screen and select Manual DNS server.
10) Enter the Primary and secondary DNS server from the Network Configuration page into the Manual Preferred DNS server field.
11) Click on Apply.

Refer to the video link for step by step instructions.

Note : The video is for win 8 but steps are similar for other operating systems as well. You need to enter the IP address in the browser's URL or the address bar to access the printer page.

Let me know how that goes.

Any ideas why my HP Envy 4520 will not allow me to assign the IP address manually? The error just says "Invalid input"  I was hoping that would be the answer to fixing it always going offline.  It goes to sleep and the only way to wake it back up is to unplug and the power.

@kpeaches Welcome to HP Community!

I understand that the printer goes offline and stop printing.

Please perform the below steps:

1.      Turn off the Router, Printer, and computer/ mobile devices.

2.      Wait for 60 seconds.

3.      Turn on the Router first and wait for all the lights to stabilize.

4.      Turn on the printer and allow it to configure itself.

5.       Turn on the computer/ mobile devices.

Please follow the below steps to restore the network defaults:

  • Restore the network defaults.
  • On the printer control panel, touch Wireless button (the Wireless button).
  • Touch Graphic - Setup icon (Settings).
  • In settings please scroll and search for an option to restore network defaults.

After performing the above steps then assigning the static IP address. It will resolve the sleep issue.

Please follow the below steps to assign the static IP.

1) Print a Network configuration page from the printer's control panel.
2) Look for an IP address from the Network configuration page.
3) Open a web browser - Chrome or IE or any other browser that you are using.
4) Type the IP address mentioned on the Network configuration page into the browser's address bar or URL bar and press the enter button.
5) Go to the Network tab.
6) Click on Networking from the left pane.
7) Then click on Network Address (IP).
8) Click on Manual IP Address and go to suggest a Manual IP.
9) Scroll down the screen and select the Manual DNS server.
10) Enter the Primary and secondary DNS server from the Network Configuration page into the Manual Preferred DNS server field.
11) Click on Apply.
