Hi
I have recently purchased the Envy 4524 printer as a replacement for a "broken Photosmart 5515". I managed to set this up ok for a home set up and have used this ok thus far. The last couple of days however I have tried to scan documents to my pc only to be advised by the printer my PC cannot be detected. I can however use HP Assistance on my pc to scan using the on screen prompts, so I do think there is an issue to resolve anyway.
My two questions however relates to the fact that with my printer powered up it shows as a wifi hub with a reference "DIRECT-37-HP ENVY 4520 series" and is a "secured" network needing a password to connect. Yesterday, my printer started to print a document which was not initiated by anyone in my household and the document has one of my neighbours name on it. It seems he tried to print this document out on his "HP ENVY 4520 series printer" by eprint and it printed on my printer. It is strange that he was having problems printing to his Envy printer and resorted to taking his pc to PC World, who set up his eprint facility on his pc. My first question therefore is -how can he remotely print to my apparantly secured but visible Envy printer and how do I ensure this can't happen by him or anybody else. I have attempted to connect to the printer network with a laptop and smart phone and they both ask for a security password which if randomely entered restricts access, so the security aspect looks ok. My second question is - how do I set my printer up for a home network connected to my main wifi hub and not have the printer showing as a seperate wifi hub.
I would really appreciate some help.
Thanks

Wireless Direct is only used when there is no router to connect to. Leave it disabled.

You have Wireless Direct enabled in the printer. This is not used when you have your own router to use with your ISP. In the printer disable Wireless direct via the front panel and verify the printer is connected to your routers SSID with password.

Hi,
Just to add, you may tap the WiFi Direct icon () at the bottom of the screen, from there you may completely disable the WiFi direct feature.

Hi, thanks for your help
I have disabled the wireless Direct feature and now just communicate via my router. This now does not show the printer as a wifi hub, so that is resolved thank you.
However, I am still confused as how my neighbour was able to print out a document on my printer whilst the Direct feature was enabled, as the printer hub was shown as secured and indeed if I tried to connect to it I had to put in a password. Does that mean the printer hub is NOT secure, or is it that there is an inherent means of communication between HP Envy 4520 series printers. I am interested why this can happen
Thanks

Thanks also Shlomil. I understand now both the disabled features you have posted. Please note I have posted an extended reply to the earlier members post really asking about the security issue. I'm very intersted how the remote printing can be done without a password. If you can know how that can occur, I would be very interested. As I said in my other post, is this something to do with the HP Envy 5420 series printer itself?
Thanks

Well most likely the user had the password to connect. All you have to do it search the web for that printer and find the default password for Wireless Direct... maybe.
It is the User responsibility to change the default password once Wireless Direct is enabled.

Possibly, as I am now aware there is a default password which I suppose is fairly easy anyway and the fact that he had had issues with his and had assistance from the PC world guys to set it up. They would logically know the default password and may well have passed that on so he used it in his final setting up.
Fair comment about the responsability of, and changing of a default password, it's too easy to ride over that stay with the default.......how many must do that? I shall do that as a matter of course from now on.
Thanks for your contribution and assistance, think I'm part way up to speed with it now.
