HP Envy 4527
Mac OS X 10.9 Mavericks

We bought an HP Envy and we can set up on our wireless network, the blue light on the printer says connected and all IP addresses match etc.  When we try to download the software from HP, it finds the printer and the correct router and when you press join, it says it cannot configure it.  No matter what device we use (two different Macs, two different ipads and two different iphones) we cannot connect or print anything.

Hello, @ccimei

I see that you were interacting with @The_Fossette. I would like to jump in with a suggestion 🙂

First, assign a manual IP & DNS for the printer. Here are the steps:

•    Obtain the IP address of the printer – You can touch the “wireless” icon on the printer control panel to get the IP address.
•    Type the IP address on your web browser to obtain the printer EWS page on your computer.
•    Go to "Network" tab - General - Select "Network protocols" - Select "Enable IPv4 only" (or similar) - Apply the settings.
•    Go to the “Network” tab – Click on “Wireless (802.11) – Then click on “Network address (IPv4)
•    Click on the radio button which says “Manual IP” and then click “Suggest a manual IP address” to give a manual IP address to your printer.
•    Click on radio button which says “Manual DNS Server” and under manual preferred type 8.8.8.8 and under manual alternate type 8.8.4.4 (This is Google DNS server address)

Restart the printer and router once done. Now, reset the printing system from MAC. Follow the steps below:

  • Click the Apple menu icon, and then click “System Preferences”.
  • Click “Printers and Scanner” / “Print and Scan” or “Print and Fax”.
  • Right-click the blank space in the Printers list, and then click “Reset printing system”.
  • Click “Reset” in the confirmation window.
  • Enter an administrator username and password, and then click “OK”.
  • Wait until the printing system is reset and no devices show in the Printers list
  • Restart your computer and then go back to System preferences – Printers and scanners.
  • Click the “Add button” (+).
  • Find, and then select the name of your printer from the printer list, and then click “Add” to add your printer.
  • Click “Print Using...”, and then select the name of your printer (By default “Airprint” would be selected)

Now try printing from Word and check for issue resolution.

Those steps should do the trick, let me know the outcome!

Cheers 🙂

Thanks for your response.  I have done everything you suggest, every time but it still comes up as 'device not found' despite the printer being connected to the same router as my computer is.  Printer and computer are both on wireless but the printet cannot be found when I try to download the software.  I cannot even reach a screen to select a device.  I tried rebooting everything a number of times, still no luck.

Hello, thanks again. I did as you suggested, went throught the whole setup to a point in which I did the 'print test page' which came out (wirelessly) as Printing is enabled.  I completed the setup, went to try and print a word document myself and it says 'the printer is not connected', looking for printer'.  It appeared to have set up but still will not print.

Hi @ccimei

Thank you for posting back.

I recommend you to try printing from a different application other than MS office files and check.

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

Take care.

I tried an email, a word document and a photo.  In any case, that really does not solve my problem as I predominantly need the printer to print word, excel and PPT?

Thankyou!  I am now, of course, afraid to turn off my computer or printer!  The steps were exactly as you said, to the very last one which did not come up with an option for Airprint. I have yet to configure anything but one computer so far but we will try!  Thanks again.
