My printer has completely stopped working, no surprises just a few days out of warranty... It has been glitchy for the entire time I have owned it, but I put that down to home printers being temperamental.
The Printer is showing as connected to the internet, but would only sporadically connect to Instant Ink (despite saying it had connected to Web Services), so would not print. The printer would also show as connected to the computer but then not scan at all, saying it was not connected.
I used HP Print and Scan Doctor numerous times with no luck. Printing would cut out half way through, then restart and print the same first few pages of a document before cutting out again... What a waste of paper and my page allowance!
In frustration I have uninstalled all the drivers and reinstalled them, plus reset the printer to factory settings. And now it will not connect AT ALL to Web Services so I cannot use Instant Ink, hence I cannot print. Nor will it work as a scanner. So I essentially have a very fancy paperweight on my hands.
The error message is "The printer could not connect to Web Services. Web Services might be busy or temporarily unavailable. Try again later." I get this both on the touchscreen and via the EWS.
Is there any fix for this please? I am using Windows 10 on an HP Laptop with a Sky router (shortly to change to Virgin).

Hi @PrintersHateMe,
Thanks for engaging in HP support Forums! This is a wonderful location to converse with the community, get assistance and find tips!
I understand you are having trouble while accessing the web services on your HP Envy Printer.. Updating the printer firmware and then assigning a manual DNS address normally get this issue fixed. Follow the steps below:
- Click on this link: https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers to download and update the printer firmware. Restart the printer once done.
- Obtain the IP address of the printer – You can touch the “wireless” icon on the printer control panel to obtain the IP address.
- Type the IP address on your web browser to obtain the printer EWS page on your computer.
- Go to the “Network” tab – Click on “Wireless (802.11) – Then click on “Network address (IPv4)
- Click on the radio button which says “Manual IP” and then click “Suggest a manual IP address” to give a manual IP address to your printer.
- Click on radio button which says “Manual DNS Server” and under manual preferred type 8.8.8.8 and under manual alternate type 8.8.4.4 (This is Google DNS server address)
- Now try accessing the web services and check.
Those steps should do the trick, let me know the outcome!
Eagerly waiting for your response!
I hope you have a good day ahead,
And Feel free to ask your queries as this forum has some of the best people in the world available and ready to help.
