HP Envy 5660
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I used to have my printer connected to my old Dell laptop and it connected just fine. I bought a new Dell laptop (Dell Inspiron 15 5000 series) and I have installed the software onto my new laptop but the laptop cannot find the printer.

They are both connected to the same internet network and my SSID is the only one with that name. I lowered my McAfee firewall as well to see if it was blocking the connection, but no luck.  The printer is connected to my internet with full signal bars and so is my new laptop. I tried restarting the router and the printer, plus my laptop, but still nothing.  Is there something about this new laptop that can't connect to this printer??? I went through all the solutions the troubleshooter app provided and NOTHING worked...

Hello, @ashley091091 - Hope you are well 🙂

Thanks for stopping by the HP Support Forums! I will certainly do my best to help you with the printer issue!

I see that you are facing issues while connecting the network printer to your new Windows 10 PC. Let’s start by assigning a static IP to the printer:

  • Obtain the IP address of the printer – You can touch the “wireless” icon on the printer control panel to get the IP address.
  • Type the IP address on your web browser to obtain the printer EWS page on your computer.
  • Go to "Network" tab - General - Select "Network protocols" - Select "Enable IPv4 only" (or similar) - Apply the settings.
  • Go to the “Network” tab – Click on “Wireless (802.11) – Then click on “Network address (IPv4)
  • Click on the radio button which says “Manual IP” and then click “Suggest a manual IP address” to give a manual IP address to your printer.
  • Click on radio button which says “Manual DNS Server” and under manual preferred type 8.8.8.8 and under manual alternate type 8.8.4.4 (This is Google DNS server address)

Now, try the steps below to install the printer over the network:

  • First, unplug the USB cable from the printer if present.
  • Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP Envy printer entries and uninstall them.
  • Now go to Control panel – Devices and printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device.
  • Restart your computer.
  • Open the Run window (Press Windows logo key + R), type “services.msc” and press ok to get services window.
  • Scroll down to “Remote Procedure Call (RPC)” – right-click and go to properties. Make sure the service is started and startup type is “Automatic”.
  • Now scroll up and go to “Function Discovery Provider Host” – right-click and select properties – Change the startup type to “manual” and start the service.
  • Repeat the same exercise on “Function Discovery Resource Publication” as well.
  • Click on http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software13/printers/EN5660/EN5660_Full_WebPack_40.11.1135.exe and install the software.
  • Select Wireless option on the connection page and then finish the installation.

Let me know if that helps!

Good luck 🙂

I did exactly what you said to do, twice, and no luck. 😞 Can I just bring the printer and my laptop somewhere and have them hook it up for me?

@ashley091091

Hi,

as @Dvortex is out of the office today, I'm replying to you. I appreciate the steps you have performed and have certainly done a good job.

I suggest you to perform a firmware update on your printer via this link. Once the firmware update is installed, please restart the printer once.

Also, please download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor. This will help in installing any absent drivers for the printer that could cause a communication issue.

Hope this helps. Let me know. Good luck!
