HP Envy 4500
Chrome OS

I've had the same Chromebook and printer for a couple of years. Changed the printer cartridges yesterday and printed something. Cloud print showed 'in progress' for about half an hour so I followed the recommended steps of deleting the printer from the list and adding it again only chrome://devices doesn't list it now.

I've restored default settings and reconnected the printer to the wireless network, and the test report confirms it's connected but Chrome can't find it.

It definitely seems to be the printer rather than the Chromebook that's the problem as my husband's Windows laptop can't see it anymore either.

(Have also tried turning everything off and on again!)

Any thoughts most welcome...

Thank you for joining HP Forums.

This is a great place to get support, find answers to your technical queries.

To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:

Are the printer and computer connected to the same network?

Are you facing this issue after an update?

Is copy working fine?

Restore network settings to default settings.

1. Press the Wireless button to access the Wireless Status menu.

2. Press the button next to Settings to access the Wireless Settings menu.

3. Select Restore Defaults.

4. Confirm selection to restore defaults.

Then, connect the printer to the network:

1. Press the Wireless button from the printer control panel, and then select Settings.

2. Scroll to select Wireless Setup Wizard, and then press OK.

3. Follow the on-screen instructions to set up the wireless connection.

4. Insert the printer software CD in the computer CD-ROM drive.

5. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the printer software.

Hope this helps you. Keep me posted.

I did all that before posting yesterday 🙂

4. Insert the printer software CD in the computer CD-ROM drive.

Can't do that as I've got a Chromebook!

But I have now sorted the problem, or at least it has sorted itself. I gave up on using it wirelessly so dug out a cable and connected it to print. Unplugged the cable from the Chromebook and took it away again, checked a bit later on the offchance and the printer is now recognised again. Still no idea what caused it or whether the problem is permanently sorted but for now at least everything seems to be fine.

Thanks for your help.
