HP Laser MFP 170nw new to be connected to MacBook laptop and/or Airport Extreme router (without any WPS button). Works fine with USB but not WiFi. The laptop ”sees” the writer (in Airport and among printers) but the blue lamp blinks and no connection is made. I have in vain tried Network > Wi-Fi Default, > Wi-Fi Direct, > WiFi On and > WPS. What is the best choice and how do I succeed?

I have gone through your Post and would like to help
Let's restore the printer settings back to Factory default
Press the (Menu) button > Network > Wi-Fi > Wi-Fi Default > Restore... on the control panel. The machine starts restoring default wireless network settings
Next download the HP Smart App for Mac and connect the printer to your Network

Keep me posted how it goes

Hi and thanks, I’ve tried but it still doesn’t work. After a couple of minutes, the process gets stuck at the "Configure the printer” step, whereafter a sign comes up: The printer could not connect to the Wi-Fi network. Please ensure your computer is connected to your Wi-Fi network. Restart your printer and try again. I try to do that but it doesn’t work. On the printer, the blue button blinks all the time. I try to push it short and long, but it doesn’t help. However, I’ve noticed that I can make it work if I on my Mac change the Airport Wi-Fi from my own house network to the one called "Direct-B9-HP Laser 178nw” and then make some further clicks (hard to remember or describe) and just print the document, then it sometimes work. But this seems a bit erratic, and I would love to have a more stabile connection where I know exactly what to do.
Also, when I now click the HP Smart icon my printer is visible there but marked as "Offline". When I click on it, I get the message: Select a Different Printer: HP Inc. HP Color Laser MFP 178nw must be turned on to add it to HP Smart. Once the printer is turned on, tap OK to refresh, and then select the printer again.
I do this, but it remains offline, even if the white on-button is on, the horisontal lamp shines green, and the blue button blinks as before.
Best, Johan

As this printer does not have a touch screen, it requires the WPS method to connect the wireless network. If the WPS button is not available on the router, you may connect the printer and the MAC using a USB cable first and then convert it to wireless.
Refer to this document to know how.
Alternatively, you may connect the printer and the MAC using wifi-direct and then convert to wireless by accessing the EWS page of the printer.
Once the devices are connected, open Safari > type in 192.168.223.1 > Wilress > Wireless setup wizard.
Let me know how this goes.

I'm sorry but I still cannot make it work.
If I for instance follow the instructions in the document you linked to and click on Finder > Go I then need to choose between either Applications > HP Smart or Applications > HP > HP ePrint. Clicking the latter seems to have no effect at all. Choosing the first alternative, my printer appears, but is said to be Offline until I connect the USB plug., but I cannot then anywhere find an All Settings tab or a Wireless Setup.
Since it works fine with the USB cable, I guess I'll have to manage without wireless.

I also think I need individual assistance.
However, when I try and contact the Swedish HP support, I get this unpleasant feedback: "There is no longer any service from HP for this product". This is very strange since the printer is brand new: I just bought it! I have got stuck here and don't know how to make this succeed. Right now even the USB doesn't function either... Please help me find somebody to talk to!
