My printer's Web Services were working fine for almost 18 months (>5000 pages scanned per the diagnostics), and scan to e-mail stopped working ~1 week ago. Wireless printing still works, so I know it is not a Wifi problem. At this point, I have tried restarting (computer and printer), disconnecting wireless, updating firmware, and resetting Web Services on both the printer touchscreen and through the printer's EWS, and I continue to receive the message below on both the printer touchscreen and EWS:
Web Services might be busy or temporarily unavailable. Try again later.

Thanks for stopping by the HP Support Forums! It is a great place to find the help you need, from other users, HP experts, and other support personnel.
I understand you are having trouble while accessing the web-services. Let’s try to assign a manual DNS address. This normally helps to fix similar issues.
- First, make sure the printer firmware is up to date. If you are unsure, now click on this link: http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software13/printers/OJ5740/OJ5740_R1736A.exe and install the firmware.
- Obtain the IP address of the printer – You can touch the “wireless” icon on the printer control panel to obtain the IP address.
- Type the IP address on your web browser to obtain the printer EWS page on your computer.
- Go to the “Network” tab – Click on “Wireless (802.11) – Then click on “Network address (IPv4)
- Click on the radio button which says “Manual IP” and then click “Suggest a manual IP address” to give a manual IP address to your printer.
- Click on radio button which says “Manual DNS Server” and under manual preferred type 8.8.8.8 and under manual alternate type 8.8.4.4 (This is Google DNS server address)
Now try accessing the web services and check.
Also, if you have any issues while doing a scan to email, then go to HP ENVY 5640, 5660, 7640 and Officejet 5740, 8040 Printer Series - Scan to a Computer, Email, or Mem... and follow the steps mentioned under “Scan directly to email (wireless Internet connections only)”.
Let me know how that goes!
