HP Officejet 8500a
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My router changed and now my Officejet 8500 won't connect.

I've gone through the wizard and done both the pushbutton and the passcode and can't get a connection.

I even went into the router software and did the PIN option.  No connection.

Any suggestions?

OK, that unit is a Gateway device, modem + router.  These are terrible for wireless connectivity, as you can see.

Suggest you put that Gateway in full Bridge Mode and buy your own high quality router and connect up so you have full control over your network instead of your cable company.

Replacing/changing your wireless router, try here.

http://www8.hp.com/us/en/campaigns/wireless-printing-center/reconfiguring-system-help3.html

* Reset your printer back to Network Defaults.  Then run the Wireless Setup Wizard to connect.  Both can be accessed from the front panel or computer.  If no front panel for configuration, you must use your Printer USB cable to connect.  You can also try the WPS method if your router/printer supports this only if the Wizard or Printer USB cable is not available.
* Set router to a fixed wireless channel like 1, 6 or 11, never ‘auto’.  Try channel 1 first then the others one at a time.
* Make sure printer and router are at least 5 feet apart.
* The router must have the 2.4G SSID band enabled with a different name than your 5.0G SSID band in your router.
* Make sure IPv6 is disabled in the printer.

Make and model of modem and router?

However if you have a Gateway (modem+router) device, all Gateway devices are terrible for wireless connectivity.   If this does not work, suggest you think about putting that gateway device in full bridge mode and install your own high quality router that YOU have full control over.

thanks....so at this point, I tried everything you suggested and still nothing is working.

the only thing I haven't tried is "* Make sure IPv6 is disabled in the printer."  I'm not sure how to do that.

I'll check on the link and see if there are other tips.

I have a modem router combo by Technicolor

IPv6 is usually done through the front panel, search for it.

What is the status?  Error message?  Lights?????   Blue wireless light on, off, blinking???   Need more details that just 'not working'...

HP Recommended

I enter the passphrase and the message I get is Authentication Error.  Invalid [passphrase]

I have multiple devices connected to the router so I know that the passphrase is correct.  If I try to connect through the WPS button, the message is "An error occurred while setting up the network through Wi Fi Protected Setup."

There we go...

OK, in the router temporarily disable and remove the security off your SSID.  Now try to connect to your unsecured SSID with no password.   Are you successful?

If yes go back and add WPA-AES with a password and try to connect again.  Status now?

HP Recommended

Yes, it connected when unsecured.

It did not work when I added back the WPA security and password.

I got the authentication error again
