HP Photosmart C4780
Mac OS X 10.9 Mavericks

I have an HPC4780 printer that has always worked with my Macbook OSX 10.9 until I had a new network created.  I can't figure out how to reset the network in the printer.

I tried RESET network defaults but there is no such thing in the menu only RESTORE defaults.  That doesn't work.  So then I thought I'd uninstall my HD software, redownload and start over, but I did not realize I'd need a wifi connection to find the printer driver and reload it!   So now because I did that and there is no wifi connection, my printers & scanners don't even show that the printer exists and cannot find it when I press the + button.  So I have TWO problems.

I tried unplugging and then reconnecting and resetting wireless but it still does not work.

Help what can I do?

Hi,

Temporary connect the printer with a USB to your Mac, then follow HP EasyStart below:

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/HP_Quick_Start/osx/Applications/HP_Easy_Start.app.zip

By following the steps on screen you should be provided with an option to configure the printer to your wireless network.

Please let me know of any problem,

Shlomi

Thanks, well your solution helped my printer find the driver and I could print while connected.  But I'm back to my original problem....I cannot find a way to tell it to look for a different wifi network.  I tried redownloading the software drivers but the installation does NOT give me an option to choose wifi. I tried following these directions for USB set up of wireless and it's an endless loop: USB set up page leads to download page which leads back to USB set up page...  The Easy Setup did not do anything either - it does not find the device unless the USB is plugged in, in which case it's not setting up the wi-fi.

Ok,

Please try below steps to temporary connect to the printer and reconfigure your network from the printer homepage:

  1. Reset the wireless settings:
Press the top button next to Wireless / Scan then press the button next to Wireless Menu.
Press the button next to Restore Network Defaults and follow the prompt to confirm.
  2. Turn the wireless radio on:
Press the top button next to Wireless / Scan then press the button next to Wireless Menu.
Press the button next to Enable Wireless if available
  3. Restart the printer by turning it off and then back on, then ensure the wireless radio is on and the blue wirelesss light blinks.
  4. On your Mac, click the WiFi icon and select Join Other Network.
Click Show Networks and connect to the hpsetup network.
Note: if no hpsetup network appear, try restarting the printer and ensure that both the Mac and the printer are close to each other, but not closer than 2 meters away.
  5. Print the wireless network test

    1. Press the Scan button (it also the Wireless menu button)
    2. Select Wireless Settings
    3. Navigate to Wireless test and select.

The Wireless Network Test prints, look for and note the IP address.

  6. Open Safari and browse to the printer's IP address.
  7. Open the  Network / Wireless tab and look for a Wireless Setup Wizard option.
If there is no such select Advanced within teh Wireless (802.11) section and follow the steps on screen to select your SSID and set your network password.
  8. The blue wireless light on the printer should solid lit wonce confirming the changes, then return your Mac to your home network.
