HP Photosmart 8450
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I am trying to get this printer to print from my iPhone. The iOS HP Smart app connects two other HP printers (an OJ Pro 8600+ and a LaserJet Pro M118dw), but not the Photosmart 8450. The two printers which I can connect are WiFi, the Photosmart 8450 is Ethernet. HP Smart doesn't even see the 8450 on my LAN. Even when I supply the IP address, HP Smart is still unable to connect. Print Doctor 5.6 says the printer is working and connected. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks and..

Agree - it is a misprint.

Even the "candidates" are manufactured way before 2010.

Wanted to make sure I am not just dragon-brain-dead.  Smiling.

The answer we can provide:

Assume that older printer will not work with HP Smart in spite of the line in the document claiming otherwise.

Documents are sometimes wrong - manufacturing dates and known restrictions for application support not-quite-so-much.

Dragon-Fur,  HP says here: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/ish_2843711

under HP Photosmart printers,

that HP Smart supports the Photosmart 8400 series:

Photosmart 8400 Photo series  |  HP Smart app (iOS)

Are you saying they're wrong?

@russd

No, I am not saying that.

I used an internal resource to find when the product series was introduced and generally supported.

That resource indicates the product is likely older than would be supported.

Based on date of Obsolescence and Region (location) - Two models within the series might be candidates.

So, I don't know.  Vintage printers of this type are not a personal specialty.

@ShlomiL What say you?  Should the HP Photosmart 8450 work with HP Smart Mobile?

Hi,

I fully agree @Dragon-Fur and I personally assume this is incorrect indeed, such a product is too old for the HP Smart app.

Also, please check below support document regarding the HP Smart app @russd , see the 'Which printers are compatible with the HP Smart app?' section:

Spoiler
Which printers are compatible with the HP Smart app?

Most wireless-capable printers manufactured 2010 and later can be added to the HP Smart app.

What I can say for sure that both can't be true altogether, one of the above is wrong 😉
