Trying to print 4x6 photo using hp envy 5055 printer. Selected "print photo" on hp smart app. It doesnt show me options for paper size 4x6 in the drop box. Only available options are "letter" and "A4". If a print is issued using 1 of these options, get error message on printer for paper size mismatch.

If you have not previously done so,
Download-save-install the Full Feature Software for the printer
HP ENVY 5000 All-in-One Print and Scan Driver and Accessories
After the software is installed, Restart the computer and log in.
Load the paper into the printer
After the paper is loaded, tell the printer panel about the change / loaded paper:
Check / Adjust / Retain the Paper at the Printer Panel
Open Printer Tray,
If you have not yet done so, add desired paper type
Close Tray
IF applicable for your printer:
On the printer control panel, Click Modify (wording varies), set the paper size and type, Click OK
NOTE: If the size of the Paper Size is not in the Drop-down list, Select Custom
Check / adjust / view tray / paper settings in the Embedded Web Server (EWS).
EWS is available from the browser AND from within HP Smart for Windows > Printer Settings > Advanced Settings
Example - EWS
Open your favorite browser > type / enter Printer IP address into URL / Address bar
Tab Settings > Preferences > Tray and Paper Management
Click Apply to save changes
EWS_9025_Preferences_Tray_and_Paper_Management_All
Open HP Smart for Windows
Open / Select Print Photos
Open / Select your image / photo to print
Check for any difference in the drop-down menu for paper sizes.
Example - HP Smart for Windows > Print Photos > Single photo - Borderless (print model dependent) - Selected photo print Shortcut in "More Settings"
HP_Smart_Borderless_Print_3.5x5_1

@Dragon-Fur,
thanks for your reply. But unfortunately, it did not help. I could not find any of the settings you have shown in snapshots. The hp-smart app - advanced settings is blank and, the web browser only allows to buy instant ink, change email add.
thanks

I tried setting the paper size from printers panel and then print using hp smart app on Iphone. I could get a 4x6 photo printed. However, on the phone version of app, I did not find the settings to select resolution and to check if the print was issued for max resolution.

The solution and indeed most of the comments, explanations, and examples are directed at Windows (presented as the operating system in your original question).
I am glad it is working as expected from at least one source.
Yes, the phone (Android / iOS) applications are much different from the Windows version.
Android is likely different from the iOS version (I've not seen the Android version).
None of the mobile versions are as robust as the Windows version, in my opinion.
Some settings, as you have found, are not available in the mobile versions.
