HP Envy 4520 series & HP Smart
macOS 10.12 Sierra

I have just set up my HP Envy 4520 series and the Wifi is working with my home network. I then downloaded HP Smart on to my iphone and the set-up says I need to connect my iphone to the HP wireless network. When I try to do this on my iphone, it asks for a password. I have never set up a password for this - what should I enter here or where would I find the password?

Thank you

Hi @CarolineDovey,

Thanks for stopping by the HP community. A very good day to you. 🙂 I reviewed the post regarding issues printing from your iPhone using HP smart app as it asks for a password. I will be delighted to assist you here. 🙂

Superb description and stupendous diagnosis of the issue before posting. Kudos to you for that. 🙂

For better clarity and to assist you better I would require information regarding this:

  • Are you trying to connect the iPhone to the printer using the Wifi direct option or feature of the printer?
  • Is the iPhone connected to the wireless network?

For now, try these steps:

  • First off, only if you are trying to establish a direct connection between the printer and the iPhone bypassing the router using wifi direct, on then it asks you for a wifi direct password which can be obtained by touching the wireless button of the printer from the printer’s control panel.

So please try these steps from this link: http://hp.care/2xFzSiU

Please try the instructions  from the following options:

  • Which printers, mobile devices, and computers support Wi-Fi Direct printing?
  • What is the difference between ‘Wi-Fi Direct’ and ‘HP wireless direct’?

This should fix the issue.

  • Also, uninstall the HP smart app and reinstall it and check again.
  • If this does not work, then disable wifi direct on the printer by following the options from this user guide: http://hp.care/2sBrsHq  Please refer to pages 5,12 and 38 on how to do it. (You need to reverse the steps to turn off wifi direct on the printer) Then try to print from HP smart app and it should work correctly.

Please perform all these steps patiently as it is critical to resolving the issue. The trick is to remain patient, Going by your technical expertise and competence I am sure you will be able to perform these steps without breaking a sweat. 🙂

Hope this helps. Let me know how this goes. I genuinely hope the issue gets resolved without hassles and the unit works great.

To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles.

Take care now and have a terrific week ahead. 🙂
