HP DeskJet 2624
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have HP DeskJet 2624 printer and am trying to connect to the internet. I am following the instructions provided with the product as follows:

1) Downloaded the HP smart app in my laptop

2) Connected the printer to my laptop by the USB provided by HP

3) Add a printer

4) Set up a new printer

5) Chose the option "Wireless" and clicked next.

6) The printer does not have touchscreen display. So selected No and continue.

7) Clicked on Connect Printer

It gives a message "Finding the printer...this can take a couple of minutes, depending on your network speed". After about 5-10 minutes, I get the message "Printer not connected by USB. Make sure your printer is powered On and the USB cable is connected between your computer and printer". What is the solution?

Welcome to the HP support community.

Note: While connecting the printer don't connect the USB cable in until prompted during the install.

Follow the below steps:

Update the printer firmware

Here are the steps:- Click here

Perform root level uninstallation to remove all the printer related software's.

  • In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.
  • Select your HP printer.
  • Select Uninstall.
  • In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.
  • In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”
  • Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.
  • Type printui.exe /s and click OK.
  • Click on Drivers tab.
  • Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click Remove at the bottom.
  • Select OK.
  • Remove all instances of the same.
  • Select Apply and OK on the Print Server Properties windows.
  • Close Devices and Printers.
  • Restart the PC again.

Download and install HP smart app

This doesn't help. Is there any help line or chat support from HP? This is frustrating.

These links keeps referring me to virtual help, which doesn't help. Is there any phone number that I can reach at in US? or chat support?

I was able to figure out. After Step 3, it showed the Icon "HP Deskjet 2600 series" and need to follow the steps from there instead of clicking "setting up a new printer" button. Thanks all for your help.
