I am using hpsmart to print to email. I recently had an issue with my printer which forced me to re-setup the service on this printer but now I can't use the name that was previously given to the printer because it says that it already exists. I have removed the printer with the name but still receiving the error. Is there any way to remove the printer name from the system so that I can use it again?

Hi @ilg112,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding reclaiming a printer name for the HP LaserJet Pro MFP M227fdw!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
Try these steps:
Verify Removal with HP Connected:
- Log into your HP account on the HP Connected website.
- Ensure that the printer is completely removed from your list of devices. Sometimes a restart or log out and log in might be needed to refresh the system.
Clear Cache and Cookies:
- Clear your browser's cache and cookies, then try accessing the HP Connected website again to see if that resolves any lingering issues.
Reconnect to HP Smart:
- Launch the HP Smart app on your computer or mobile device.
- Add your printer again, ensuring it is properly set up on the same network.
Rename the Printer:
- During the setting-up process, you usually have the option to assign a name. If it still indicates the name is taken, consider using a slightly modified name, such as adding a digit or hyphen temporarily.
Restart All Devices:
- Restart your printer, router, and the device you are using to ensure that all devices are refreshed and any temporary network glitches are cleared.
Check for Firmware Updates:
- Ensure that your printer firmware and HP Smart app are up-to-date. Outdated software might cause discrepancies in available features and functions.
I hope this helps.
