Hello

How do I set up my android phone to print to my HP Office jet 4650? It used to but I accidentally reset my printer. It prints from laptop but not from phone any more. Just says "printer not avaiable" on my HP printer phone screen. Thank you

Hi @CC358,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP OfficeJet 4650 prints from your laptop but not from your Android phone after a reset. Let’s go through the steps to reconnect your phone.

Ensure Printer is Connected to Wi-Fi

On the printer, go to Wireless Settings > Wireless Setup Wizard.

Reconnect the printer to your home Wi-Fi network.

Make sure it’s the same network your phone is on (2.4 GHz preferred).

Enable Wireless on Printer

Check that the Wireless light is solid or blinking blue, indicating Wi-Fi is active.

If it’s off, press the Wireless button to turn it on.

Install / Update HP Smart on Your Phone

Open Google Play Store → HP Smart.

Make sure it’s latest version.

If already installed, try uninstalling and reinstalling to refresh network connections.

Add Printer in HP Smart

Open HP Smart → Tap + Add Printer.

Your 4650 should appear automatically.

If not, tap Set Up New Printer and follow the prompts.

Ensure the printer is online and not showing any errors.

Use Wi-Fi Direct (if needed)

Press the Wireless + Information (i) buttons on the printer for a few seconds until the Wi-Fi Direct light blinks.

On your phone, go to Wi-Fi settings → select the printer’s Wi-Fi Direct network.

Return to HP Smart and try printing.

Confirm Phone and Printer on Same Network

Guest networks, VPNs, or multiple Wi-Fi bands can block detection.

Both devices must be on the same 2.4 GHz network for HP Smart to see the printer.

Test Printing

Try printing a photo or document from HP Smart to verify connection.

Avoid printing directly from other apps until it works via HP Smart.

I hope this helps.
