Android 9.0 Pie

Dear HP Communities,

I am trying to print on 6x4” Everyday Photo Paper with HP Envy Pro 6400 serie printers.

Windows 7, 8.1 and 10 drivers provide fully support for all the specifications included for paper handling at https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c06642886/

which includes  'Media weight supported metric' such as

A4: 60 to 90 g/m²; HP envelopes: 75 to 90 g/m²; HP cards: up to 200 g/m²; HP 10 x 15 cm photo paper: up to 300 g/m²

Also 'Media size supported' are A4; A5; B5; DL; C6; A6

According to the support by a 3rd party Android app that  provides similar features, the drivers are provided by HP and they are based on their Linux library HPLIP (https://developers.hp.com/hp-linux-imaging-and-printing), so it is not possibile to add new paper size.  In other terms, only A4 sheets are being managed by that app.

So apparently Android users are heavily limited by the choice of paper size vs Windows users. 🙄

It seems only A4 format is supported.

Again only Plain Paper, Photo Paper and Transparent films would be supported.  No references to matte, glossy ink papers, etc available instead with the Windows drivers.

Anyway I bought 3 packs of HP Everyday Photo Paper (lucid) CR757A 200g/m2 10x15 cm ( 6x4” )

- Does Android HP Smart app support that 6x4” paper size , "Photo 4x6in" or "Hagaki 100x148mm" when using the Print Photos feature with HP ENVY Pro 6400 series printers?

-  Does Android HP Smart app provide the choice to use more than Plain Paper, Photo Paper and Transparent films  with HP ENVY Pro 6400 series printers?

Sorry for the question but I can't t test HP Smart directly on our Android devices,

Thank you.

Hi @Bepi29,

I'd like to help!

The printer supports the below media types-

Plain Paper; HP Photo Papers; HP Matte Brochure or Professional Paper; HP Matte Presentation Paper; HP Glossy Brochure or Professional Paper; Other Photo Inkjet Papers; Other Matte Inkjet Papers; Other Glossy Inkjet Papers; Plain Paper, Light/Recycled

Use the HP Smart app

Print, scan and copy by clicking the HP Smart app home screen tiles. You can also check printer status, troubleshoot issues, order supplies, and set printer preferences.

HP Smart home screen

  • To print, select a print job type from the home screen, select the item to print, use the photo editing tools if necessary, and then change any print job settings. select paper size and type

  • To scan, choose to scan from the printer scanner glass or document feeder, import a photo, or use the computer or mobile device camera to capture a photo or document. Use the editing tools if necessary, and then print, save, or share the scanned item.

  • To manage the printer, click the picture of your printer on the home screen to change preferences and options, check the printer status, and more.

  • To add or remove home screen tiles, select Personalize Tiles at the bottom of the screen (Android, iOS)

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Hi Jay_G24,

Thank you for your reply.

But unfortunately it does not address the questions I expressed above (and below reported again for your convenience).

It is not a matter of reading the printer specifications regarding the supported media or explaining the app can scan, copy or print, generally speaking.

The core of the questions concerns the apparent limits of the drivers running the app on Android environment. And specifically for the Envy Pro 6400 series.

And all we know that the choices available for the Officejet serie are not the same of the Envy Photo or Envy Pro series.

So here are the questions, please:

- Does Android HP Smart app support that 6x4” paper size , "Photo 4x6in" or "Hagaki 100x148mm" when using the Print Photos feature with HP ENVY Pro 6400 series printers?

-  Does Android HP Smart app provide the choice to use more than Plain Paper, Photo Paper and Transparent films  with HP ENVY Pro 6400 series printers?

I began the thread because " I can't t test HP Smart directly on our Android devices,"

Thank you.

Yes, the app does give you an option to select the paper size and type.

4x6 and 5x7 are available options when it some photo printing.

Paper types are as well available on the app to select, plain, photo, or card.

Hope this helps!
