How do I remove printer showing up as "send-to-hp-roam" on iOS???

On my iphone, I see send-to-hp-roam but on a different iOS device, it does display correct. How do I remove from my iphone? I tried deleting HP Smart app and also restarted my mobile. Tried resetting WiFi and also tried cold refresh of factory settings of printer and doing manual AirPrint setup without the hp app. The phone I originally set the printer up on with the HP app still shows that name even though I change the name in the air print configuration and every other iOS and macOS device sees the correct name. It's just the one original phone and resetting everything. It still does not change the name. I can print fine so it's really just cosmetic, but it's annoying

Hi @Unlisted1222,

Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

Ensure Printer Name is Correct in the HP App

  • First, make sure the printer's name has been properly updated in the HP Smart App.
  • Open the HP Smart app, go to the Printers tab, and select your printer. Ensure you change the name to something else if you want a custom name.

If this doesn't seem to reflect on your iPhone, follow the next steps.

Remove and Reinstall Printer from AirPrint Settings

  • Go to Settings > Wi-Fi on your iPhone and find the printer under available networks (make sure it's connected to the same Wi-Fi network).
  • If the printer shows up here, forget the network by tapping on the (i) next to the printer and selecting Forget This Network.
  • After that, manually reconnect to the printer.
  • Go to Settings > Printers & Scanners (if available) and ensure the correct AirPrint printer is listed.

Check for Printer Sharing Settings

  • If you’re using AirPrint, ensure there is no printer sharing or configuration conflict between your devices. Sometimes a printer name might be updated on a Mac or other device and is not properly reflected on your iPhone

Reset All Settings on iPhone

  • Resetting settings can fix some persistent glitches without erasing your data (like photos or apps).
  • To do this:
    • Go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings.
    • This will reset network settings, keyboard dictionary, home screen layout, and location settings, but it won't delete any personal data.

Clear Printer Cache

  • If the printer is associated with cached data or configurations, it might still appear with the "send-to-hp-roam" name.
  • Factory reset the printer again by doing the following On the Home screen of the printer display, touch (Menu).
    • Scroll down to touch Tools.
    • Touch Maintenance.
    • Touch Restore Settings, and then select the option to restore factory defaults.
    • You’ve already mentioned resetting the Wi-Fi settings on the printer, so this would be an additional step.

Remove Printer from iCloud (if applicable)

  • If you're using iCloud Keychain or iCloud printing configurations, the device might be syncing incorrect printer information from your cloud account.
  • Go to Settings > Apple ID > iCloud, and ensure your printer isn’t being shared via iCloud.

Test on Another Device

  • Since this issue seems isolated to your iPhone, try connecting another device (even a borrowed iOS device) to see if the name persists there. This can help identify if it’s a device-specific issue.

Final Steps (Check AirPrint Connection)

  • Go to Settings > Wi-Fi, make sure the device and printer are on the same network.
  • Check for any software or firmware updates on both your printer and your iPhone.

I hope these steps help resolve the issue

Manually connecting to printer via WiFi direct and then forgeting the network of the direct connection and reconnecting to my local WiFi seems to have fixed it. I now see the name I set.

Hi @Unlisted1222,

That's awesome to hear! 😄

It looks like reconnecting to your local Wi-Fi after using Wi-Fi Direct did the trick! 👍I'm glad you're now seeing the name you set on the printer.
