Hi @Lakelover63,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be happy to help you!

It sounds like your Android phone is defaulting to sending files to your HP ENVY 7640 e-All-in-One Printer when you're trying to download and view them instead. This issue can occur if your phone is set to automatically print files or if the print option is mistakenly being selected during the download process.

Here’s how you can resolve this issue:

1. Check Default App Settings:

  • Change Default App for Downloads:
    • Go to Settings on your Android phone.
    • Navigate to Apps & notifications (or Apps).
    • Look for the current default app for handling certain file types (such as PDFs) and ensure it’s set to a viewer app (like Google Drive, Adobe Acrobat, or any file viewer), not the printer.
  • Clear Default Printer App:
    • Find the HP Print Service Plugin or any related printer app, and check if it's set as the default for opening certain file types.
    • If it is, clear the defaults for that app.

2. Change the Action When Downloading:

  • Review Download Process:
    • When downloading a file, ensure you are selecting the correct option to view the file rather than print it.
    • On some phones, the options may appear as "Open with" or "Complete action using." Choose a file viewer rather than the printer.
  • Disable Print Option in Downloads:
    • If the print screen appears, try pressing the back button or canceling to prevent the print dialog from appearing. This should return you to the option to view the file.

3. Uninstall or Disable the HP Print Service Plugin Temporarily:

  • Uninstall HP Print Service Plugin:
    • If you rarely print from your phone, consider uninstalling or disabling the HP Print Service Plugin temporarily to avoid this issue.
    • You can always reinstall it from the Google Play Store when needed.

4. Use a Different File Manager or Viewer:

  • Download a File Viewer:
    • Install a specific file viewer app like Google Drive, Adobe Acrobat, or Microsoft Office, and set it as the default for viewing files.
  • Manage Downloads in a File Manager:
    • Use a dedicated file manager app to download and open files directly, which can help avoid the print screen from appearing.

5. Check the Printer Connection:

  • Disconnect or Pause the Printer:
    • If the phone is connected to the printer over Wi-Fi, try disconnecting or pausing the printer connection while downloading files to see if this prevents the print dialog from appearing.

By following these steps, you should be able to download and view files on your Android phone without them automatically going to the print screen.

If this does not help, I recommend you contact phone support for further assistance.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
