@Twhite7326, Welcome to HP Support Community,
Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue
It sounds like you're having trouble printing from your iPhone to your HP OfficeJet Pro 6978. Let's go through a few troubleshooting steps to try and resolve the issue:
Check Wi-Fi Connection
Ensure Both Devices Are on the Same Network: Make sure your iPhone and the printer are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
Check Printer's Wi-Fi Connection: On the printer’s control panel, check if the Wi-Fi icon is solid (not blinking or showing any errors).
Run HP Smart:
- Download and run the HP Smart. Follow the prompts to diagnose and fix common printing issues.
- Refer: Use Diagnose & Fix in HP Smart to repair common printing issues (Windows, macOS) | HP® Support
Update Printer Firmware (Update the firmware on an HP printer | HP® Support)
- Go to the HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads page. Enter your printer model number and search for the latest firmware update. Follow the instructions to download and install the firmware update.
Remove and Re-add the Printer
On your iPhone:
Go to Settings > Printers & Scanners.
Find the HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 in the list and remove it.
After removing it, restart your iPhone and go back to the printer settings. Look for the printer again and add it back.
Check Printer’s Print Queue
Sometimes a stuck print job can cause issues. To check:
On the printer’s control panel, navigate to Control Panel > Print Queue to see if any jobs are stuck.
If there are, cancel them and try printing again.
Reset Network Settings on iPhone
If nothing else works, you can try resetting your network settings on your iPhone. Be aware this will remove saved Wi-Fi networks and passwords:
Go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
I hope this helps.
Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.
Take care and have a good day.
