I have been using Hpsmart for years. Both in my office and home. Over the past 2 years, app is faulty on multiple devices and PCs. Most of the time it shows printer offline. If it does come online, it takes a long time. I have tried troubleshooting many options for many months now. By the way the printer works fine when using Adobe, word, and other direct software, including Windows printer with any printer connected to the network. Please do not suggest simple troubleshooting like reinstall apps, check drivers, or printer wifi connection/same network. Note All tried and then some. When needing to print from a phone, I have to email-print docs. The HP smart app/ HP printer plug-in doesn't show a online printer. Even WiFi-direct will show the printer, but say "printer isn't available right now". Besides the ink service never being a issue, the HPsmart app is useless. Please any resolution or high level suggestions?

Hi @salvo98,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you've already tried many troubleshooting steps, so let's explore some additional high-level suggestions to address the persistent issue with the HP Smart app for your Officejet 4650 Series printer.
Firmware Update: Ensure that your printer has the latest firmware installed. Sometimes, firmware updates can address compatibility issues and improve overall performance.
Network Configuration:
- Confirm that your printer is connected to the same network as your devices. Inconsistent network connections can cause issues.
- If possible, assign a static IP address to your printer instead of relying on dynamic IP assignment. This can sometimes provide more stability.
Firewall and Security Software:
- Check your computer's firewall settings and security software. Sometimes, these can interfere with the communication between devices. Temporarily disabling them for testing purposes may help identify if they are the cause.
Router Configuration:
- Review your router settings to ensure that there are no restrictions or filters preventing proper communication between your devices and the printer.
Alternative Printing Apps:
- Try alternative printing apps that are compatible with HP printers. Some third-party apps might offer a more stable connection.
HP Print Service Plugin:
- Ensure that the HP Print Service Plugin is enabled on your Android device. You can find this in the device settings under "Printing" or a similar section.
Check for App Updates:
- Make sure that both the HP Smart app and the HP Print Service Plugin (if applicable) are up to date. Updates often include bug fixes and improvements.
Resetting Printer:
- Consider performing a factory reset on your printer. This should be done cautiously as it will erase all customized settings, but it might help in resolving persistent issues.
Alternative Printing Methods:
- If all else fails, consider using alternative methods for printing, such as using the built-in printing options in individual apps or using the standard Windows printing feature.
Remember to document any changes you make during troubleshooting and keep track of what seems to work or not work.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

I have tried all of this. This was just discovered when attempting to print from my android (Samsung Galaxy 10+) phone today.
The AP tries to find the printer in my WIFI domain. It just keeps searching and never sees the printer. All desk and laptops are working Ok. I think HP has somehow done something to the HP Smart AP, and now it is unable to connect wirelessly to the printer. It is an OfficeJet 8600 Pro all in one and has functioned pretty well until now on all devices.
Someone needs to address this issue ASAP.
Please fix this…
