I was printing perfectly fine and then all of a sudden, I can't print anymore papers. The printer looks as if it is printing but there is no sound nor anything coming out.

Hi @Michael278963,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I know how frustrating it is when your HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 All-in-One Printer suddenly stops printing, especially when it looks like it’s working but nothing comes out. Let’s walk through the most effective steps to get your printer back up and running.

1. Clear the Print Queue and Restart the Spooler

Sometimes jobs get stuck in the queue and silently fail.

Steps:

  1. Go to Settings > Bluetooth & Devices > Printers & Scanners.
  2. Select your HP 8710 and click Open Queue.
  3. Cancel all pending jobs.
  4. Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and hit Enter.
  5. Find Print Spooler, right-click it, and select Stop.
  6. Go to C:\Windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS and delete all files.
  7. Return to Services, right-click Print Spooler, and select Start.

This refreshes the print system and clears any stuck jobs.

2. Run HP App

This free tool from HP can automatically detect and fix common issues.

3. Check Printer Connection

  • If using Wi-Fi, ensure the printer is connected to the same network as your PC.
  • If using a USB, try a different port and cable.
  • Print a Network Configuration Page from the printer’s control panel to verify IP address and connection status.

4. Update Printer Firmware and Drivers

Outdated firmware can cause silent failures.

5. Try Direct IP Printing

If HP Smart or auto-discovery fails, manually add the printer by IP:

  1. Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
  2. Right-click your printer > Printer Properties > Ports tab.
  3. Click Add Port > Standard TCP/IP Port > New Port.
  4. Enter the printer’s IP address from the Network Configuration Page.

This bypasses software issues and connects directly.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
