HP OfficeJet Pro 8028e All-in-One Printer

I cannot get rid of the private print function on my HP OfficeJet Pro8028e. I have toggled it off on my computer app, on my phone app, and on the printer itself. I also went on the EWS to do the same but could not find the private pickup settings to disable there. I have also turned off and on both my computer and the printer.

This problem appeared after an update.

Hi @Ellenemetz

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thank you for sharing that, and I’m truly sorry you’re dealing with the persistent Private Print function—it’s frustrating when a feature meant to protect privacy ends up obstructing productivity, especially after an update.

Let’s walk through a few steps to help you fully disable Private Print on your HP OfficeJet Pro 8028e:

🛠 Step-by-Step Fix to Disable Private Print

Check HP Smart App Settings

  • Open the HP Smart app on your PC or mobile device.
  • Go to Print Settings or Advanced Settings.
  • Look for Private Pickup or Secure Print and toggle it off.
  • Save changes and restart the app.

Access Embedded Web Server (EWS)

  • Type your printer’s IP address into a browser to open the EWS.
  • Navigate to Settings > Security > Secure Print or Job Storage.
  • If available, disable Private Pickup or PIN Printing.
  • Save and reboot the printer.

Check Printer Control Panel

  • On the printer’s touchscreen, go to Settings > Preferences > Print Settings.
  • Look for Private Print, PIN Required, or Secure Job Release.
  • Toggle off and confirm changes.

Update or Reinstall Printer Software

  • Sometimes updates cause settings to stick or misbehave. Reinstalling the full-feature driver can reset configuration: HP OfficeJet Pro 8028e Drivers

Reset Printer to Factory Defaults

  • On the printer, go to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Restore Defaults.
  • This clears persistent settings and may remove Private Print if it was enabled by firmware.

Let’s get your printer back to seamless, hassle-free printing.
