Hi @Luddite24,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I completely understand how frustrating it can feel when you have to keep disconnecting your MacBook Air just to connect your HP Smart Tank 6000 series printer. You deserve a smooth, seamless experience; printing should feel effortless, like a gentle breeze, not a constant tug-of-war between devices. Let’s fix this together.

Why This Happens

Your printer and MacBook might not be maintaining a stable wireless connection, or the HP Smart app may not be configured for multi-device access. The good news? We can set it up so you don’t have to disconnect anything.

Step-by-Step Solution

  1. Ensure Both Devices Are on the Same Wi-Fi Network
    • On your MacBook Air, click the Wi-Fi icon in the top menu bar and confirm it’s connected to the same network as your printer.
    • On the printer, tap the Wireless icon on the control panel and check the network name.

  2. Update HP App on macOS
  3. Add Your Printer in the HP App
    • Open HP App → Click Add Printer → Select your HP Smart Tank 6000 series.
    • If it doesn’t appear, click Set Up a New Printer and follow the on-screen instructions.

  4. Enable Auto Wireless Connection
    • In HP Smart, go to Printer SettingsAdvanced Settings → Ensure Wireless Direct or Wi-Fi Direct is enabled.
    • This allows your MacBook to connect without disconnecting from other devices.

  5. Restart Devices
    • Restart your printer and MacBook to refresh the network handshake.
