HP Envy 4520
macOS 10.12 Sierra

Hi,

Every time I need to print through my HP Envy 4520 I get a message saying printer is not connected. Once I restart my computer (Mac Air) this is resolved. What do I need to do to fix this so I don't have to restart every time?

Thanks!
Pete

Hi @peterbarnard,

Good Day.  A warm welcome to the HP community. I reviewed the post regarding the printer losing wireless connection and the computer needs to be restarted each time. I will be delighted to assist you here.

Splendid description, brilliant troubleshooting and great observations made before posting. Kudos to you for that. 🙂

To assist you accurately I would require more information regarding this.

  • Did this happen after a software or operating system update?
  • Did you reset the mac printing system?

Please perform only these steps.

First restart the computer, printer, and router from this link: https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-envy-4520-all-in-one-printer-series/5447920/model/5447921/do... and please follow only step1

Then follow only the steps mentioned below from this link: hp.com/us-en/product/hp-envy-4520-all-in-one-printer-series/5447920/model/5447921/document/c04249334 and check if it fixes the issue

Step 2: Reset the printer

Step 5: Reset the printing system

Then follow these steps to add the printer:

Click the Apple menu icon, and then click System Preferences.

2.) Click Printers and Scanners, Print and Scan, or Print and Fax.

3.) In the Printers list, click your HP printer, and then click the Minus button to delete it.

4.) Click the Add button.

5.) Find, and then select the name of your printer from the Printer list, and then click Add to add your printer. Do not select an HP Fax driver.

6.) Click the Use or Print Using box, and then select the name of your printer.

7.) Avoid the AirPrint driver. Once the correct HP driver is chosen, select Add to add the printer to the list.

8.) Try to print.

Then follow these steps

Step 6: Other things to try under this option disable IPV6 option.

Then please  assign a static IP address for the printer from this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SCnYyq80V9g  without fail. This si aYoutube video on how to assign a Static IP address for the printer. it works for both Mac and Windows as you need to go the EWS page of the printer from the browser window of your MAC.

This should do the trick for you.

Please perform all these steps patiently as it is critical to resolving the issue. The trick is to remain patient, please. Please note that I am not overloading you with a lot of troubleshooting steps.

Instead, just like you, I am eager to ensure that the problem gets resolved. So I am providing you with more resources and information at your disposal to deal with the situation better.

Hope this helps. Let me know how this goes. I genuinely hope the issue gets resolved without hassles and the unit works great.

To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles.

Take care now and have a superb week ahead. 🙂

I have had printer connection issues for sometime now. Having upgraded to Mojave my printer HP Envy 5530 will not stay connected. Every time I shutdown my computer then on again I have to go through turning off the router to ‘ add a printer’ even though the computer recognises my printer is there. TOTALLY FRUSTRATING AND TIME CONSUMING. Why has HP not updated it’s drivers! Is it worth connecting by cable and forget about airprinting?
