Envy 5646 All in one
iOS 12 - 12.0.1

Hi,

We use a router, which supports and offers both 2.4 and 5ghz Wifi.

I'd like to disable the 5ghz Wifi on the router as it causes some issues in our Wifi network.

As far as I know the HP Envy 5646 supports only 2.4ghz, so it should be no problem at all if I disable the 5ghz in our router, right?

But the strange thing is that our iPhones and MacBooks can only connect to the printer if the 5ghz Wifi of the router is enabled and they are connected to the 5ghz Wifi.

As soon as I disable the 5ghz on the router, our divices cannot find the printer any more.

How is this possible?

I know it doesn't make any sense, but maybe some one knows more and can help us to understand what's going on here.

A warm welcome to HP Forums! This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips to your technical queries.

Updating the printer firmware, resetting the printer network settings and connecting the printer to 2.4GHz network may resolve the issue. Let's try these step's:

1.) Use the steps available here to update the printer firmware.

2.) Disable 5Ghz on your router.

3.) Unplug your modem/router and leave it powered off.

4.) Restart your printer, from the printer control panel,  touch "Setup". Touch 'Network Setup", touch "Restore Network Settings".

5.) Power off your printer

6.) Reconnect your modem/router and wait for it to re-establish its internet connection.

7.) Power on your printer.

8.) From the printer control panel, touch (Wireless).

9.) Touch Settings.

10.) Touch Wireless Settings.

11.) Touch Wireless Setup Wizard. Follow the display instructions to complete the setup.

Once the printer is connected, connect other devices to the same WiFi network and try to print.

Let me know how it goes!

Thank you for your response.

I followed the instruction but unfortunately it didn't fix the issue.

However, I found out that this problem occures only on our two iPhones (XS and XS Max).

The laptop can find the printer when both are connected to 2.4ghz wifi.

But iPhones can find the printer only if they are connected to the 5ghz Wifi!

Here an screenshot of our Router settings for Wifi:

Any other suggestions?

Let's disable IPv6 on the printer and check you can print from the iOS devices:
1.) From the printer control panel Home screen, touch (Wireless) and then touch ( Settings ).
2.) Touch Advanced Settings.
3.) Locate IPv6 setting and set it to Off or Disabled.
4.) Restart Printer and iOS devices.
5.) Try to print.

Keep me posted!
