I got an e-mail from donotreply@email.hpsmart.com saying thanking me for registering my new HP computer.  It then says I already have an HP account and verify your information.  Please note that I did not click on any links. I didn't buy a HP computer and the HP that I do have is three years old. I checked my HP account and then there no signs of a new registered computer.

Is this e-mail legit?  It seems like a scam.  I have tried calling HP and no one seems to be able to tell me either way.  If it is legit, how do I contact HP to address this situation of a computer being registered under my name without my consent?  Any insight would be helpful.  Thanks!

Just got the same email but the email address you mentioned is missing an e after the donot so it definitely is a scam. The email address reads as donotereply@email.hpsmart.com so really it says do notE reply …hard to catch since our eyes automatically read donot but it has that extra e. Total scam.

I did not catch the extra e. I was able to check my devices and there was no new computer listed. Nice catch! Thank you 😀

I got the same email about 2 days after indeed buying a new HP Laptop and going through the Windows setup... I got the email from donotereply@email.hpsmart.com, inviting me to create a password for my account... I naively went through it and did it, but I was then able to really login with the account on HP. Somehow it was legit?
