What gives HP the right to stop me using my own printer with cartridges that I have bought from them?
my card was hacked, so they couldn’t take payment for cartridges (I still have unused cartridges from last month) now I can’t use it!
only had new HP printer a few months and they have really p***sed me off!

I am sorry you are upset.
You are correct.
After the contract is cancelled by you -- the customer -- or by HP,
The HP owned Instant Ink cartridges no longer work.
This includes all installed cartridges made part of the subscription and any Instant Ink / Subscription cartridges sent to you.
It is the way the service has always worked, in fact.

HP Instant Ink is an optional Print-by-Page subscription service for which you are charged a monthly fee for a set number of printed pages. (Each side of the paper is counted as a separate Page.)
While there is no additional charge for the ink, the service is not free and does charge each month.
IMPORTANT -- Ink is supplied only with an active subscription -
After the service is terminated by you or HP, all subscription ink cartridges stop working and must (should) be returned to HP.
Selecting the right number of pages for your plan is important.
