After working for a couple of years, suddenly the mac can't find the Deskjet 2540 printer. Have worked through all previous suggestions and online help, but it doesn't find it. Took it off, loaded the HP smart app. Didn't work. Have disconnected everything about ten times. It will run off a photocopy but not print or scan.
What else can I try?
Or is it time to change to a different brand?

Open the Apple menu , click System Preferences, and then click Print & Scan or Printers & Scanners. Right-click or Ctrl + click anywhere in the Printers list, and then click Reset printing system. Restart the printer, return to the Printers list, and then click the plus icon (+) to set up and add the printer.

Those steps didn't fix the solution, and they're online, too, so was one I'd tried a few times.
What did work though was switching everything off, including the router, and then switching them on in order. The Mac then found the printer and loaded it. Working fine now.
