HP Officejet 100 Mobile Printer - L411a

Good afternoon,

My organization uses HP Officejet 100 and HP Officejet 200 mobile printers.  The security personnel are asking me to provide the answers to the following questions:

  1. Is the memory volatile for these printers. (I.e., will the memory clear if powered off)?
  2. If the memory is volatile and the printer remains on power, how long will it retain in the memory?
  3. What kind of memory is in the OfficeJet 100 Printer? (The specifications just say 64MB).
  4. If the memory is not volatile, how long does the information remain in memory?
  5. If the questions above are not accurate, how does the memory work?

Hi @OCC_PA,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be glad to help you!

Here’s a breakdown of the memory characteristics for the HP OfficeJet 100 and HP OfficeJet 200 mobile printers to help you respond to your organization's security personnel:

Is the memory volatile for these printers?

  • Yes, the memory in the HP OfficeJet 100 and HP OfficeJet 200 printers is considered volatile. This means that the memory will clear if the printer is powered off.

If the memory is volatile and the printer remains on power, how long will it retain information in the memory?

  • While the printer is powered on, it will retain data in memory as long as there is a constant power supply. However, specific retention times can vary depending on usage, but generally, as long as the printer is powered on, the data remains accessible.

What kind of memory is in the OfficeJet 100 Printer?

  • The HP OfficeJet 100 printer has 64MB of RAM, which is used for temporary storage of print jobs, settings, and other operational data. This memory is typically volatile (i.e., it does not retain data when the power is turned off).

If the memory is not volatile, how long does the information remain in memory?

  • If the memory were non-volatile (which it is not for these printers), it would retain information indefinitely until it is intentionally erased or overwritten, even if the power is turned off. However, for the OfficeJet 100 and 200, you do not need to consider this as it is a volatile memory.

If the questions above are not accurate, how does the memory work?

  • The memory in the HP OfficeJet 100 and 200 printers works as a temporary workspace (RAM) to hold data for processing print jobs. Once the job is printed, the information in memory is usually cleared unless there is a malfunction or specific error state. Therefore, after powering off, all data, settings, and queued print jobs are lost.

If there are any additional questions or specific security concerns, let me know, I will try and see if I can help further😊

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
