Wi-Fi Direct can be used to avoid configuring the router. Watch this: 9020e
Wi-Fi Direct is explained on page 103 of the User Manual, this Wi-Fi setup avoids configuring the router.
If you subscribed to instant ink then the printer needs to be online to the internet. It must have a connection to the router, but you can still print directly to the printer.
Let me know if the printer needs to be online.
