@Guy022, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
I understand you are not able to print from your Mac.
To assist you better, which version of macOS are you using?
Try printing a test page from the printer to check its hardware functionality. Press and hold the power button, now press the cancel button, hold both the buttons down for 3 seconds and release them.
Have you connected the printer using a USB cable?
Make sure the cable is directly connected between the Mac and the printer.
The use of a USB hub is not recommended. Also, make sure the cable is connected to a USB 2.0 port on your Mac.
Do you have an Anti-virus/firewall installed on the Mac? If yes, disable the same for time being.
You may check this in System Information > Applications.
- Check if the printer is getting recognized by your Mac:
- From the Apple menu, choose About This Mac.
- Click System Report.
- Under the Hardware heading on the left side of the System Information window, click USB.
USB 3 devices appear under USB 3.0 Bus, and USB 2 devices appear under USB 2.0 Bus. The printer should be under the USB 2.0 Bus
Check for any software updates on Mac
Click the Apple icon > About This Mac > Software Update and install any available update.
Let me know how it goes.
Please click “Accept as Solution” if you feel my post solved your issue, it will help others find the solution.
Click the “Kudos, Thumbs Up" on the bottom right to say “Thanks” for helping!
Have a great day!

Thank you so much for your getting back to me!!
I am running Big Sur 11.3 I updated the software Friday when I was on with the Apple technician,
I did the printer check as you requested and printed the test page ok.
I am connecting via a USB cable. No anti-virus or firewall.
The printer is listed under the USB 2.0 bus
What is a USB hub?
Tried to print a file and the printer icon appears on the Dock and then disappears with no printing being done.,
Thanks again,
Guy

So, the Mac is detecting the printer, connectivity seems to be fine.
As you were able to print a test page, it means the printer hardware is also fine.
Click here to download the HP printer driver via HP Easy Start as this printer is not AirPrint compatible.
Try printing.
Let me know how it goes.

Kumar0307:
The link routed me from hp Easy Start to download the hp Smart program.
When I did, I walked through the steps and got a message that said the printer couldn't detect the USB. I AM using a connector that allows HDMI and USB connections and I've had no problem connecting to other devices. What do you think?
Thanks
Guy

Just to let you and the others reading this know that I clicked on the link you provided, got my case number and called the service number.....however....they want to CHARGE me a service fee to diagnose this "problem" because my printer is out of warranty. I have called Samsung, Apple, Moen and others for items that were out of warranty and none of them EVER asked for a service charge to help me diagnose a service issue. Apparently they want customers to be long-time customers and advocates......too bad HP doesn't feel this way.
