The last few times I have tried to print from my iphone 14 or iPad air the mobile printing will buffer before disconnecting from the printer and randomly say "no printer selected" despite being connected to the printer a second ago. I can however still print from my Windows 11 laptop. I'm using an HP envy 7640 that is up to date and iOS 18.4. Currently this issue is iphone and ipad only

Hi @Kmcummins3,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Since you can print from your Windows 11 laptop but not from your iPhone 14 or iPad Air, the issue is likely related to AirPrint or network settings rather than the printer itself. Try the following solutions:

1. Restart Everything (Basic but Effective)

Restart your printer – Power it off, unplug it for 30 seconds, and turn it back on.

Restart your iPhone & iPad – Power cycle both devices.

Restart your Wi-Fi router – Unplug it for a minute and plug it back in.

2. Ensure iPhone/iPad & Printer are on the Same Network

Go to Settings → Wi-Fi on your iPhone & iPad and check the network.

On the printer, go to Settings → Network Settings → Wi-Fi and confirm it’s on the same network.

If your router has both 2.4GHz and 5GHz, connect both devices to 2.4GHz (printers work better on this band).

3. Check Printer’s AirPrint Status

On iPhone, go to Settings → Print → Printer and check if your printer appears.

If it doesn’t, try manually adding the printer via IP:

Go to Settings → Wi-Fi → Tap the "i" icon next to your Wi-Fi.

Note down the IP address of the printer (you can also find this in the printer’s network settings).

Open Safari and enter the printer’s IP address to see if the printer’s web page loads.

If it loads, go to Settings → Print → Add Printer and enter the IP address manually.

4. Reset Network Settings on iPhone & iPad

Go to Settings → General → Transfer or Reset iPhone → Reset → Reset Network Settings

This will remove Wi-Fi networks, so you’ll have to reconnect afterward.

5. Reinstall the HP Smart App

Even though AirPrint works without an app, try installing HP Smart from the App Store and setting up the printer again.

6. Disable VPN or Private Relay (If Enabled)

VPNs and iCloud Private Relay can interfere with network discovery.

Go to Settings → [Your Name] → iCloud → Private Relay and turn it off.

If you use a VPN, disable it and check if AirPrint works.

If the issue still persists, refer to the steps on this link to restore factory defaults.
