Hello!
I recently received a replacement printer as my original HP Color Laser Jet Pro MFP 3301fdw broke. This new printer is the same model, however, I cannot print from any iPhone or iPad. I was able to do so on my original printer, so I know it is possible with this model.
It is very strange because if I go to print, I see the option and the printer, when I hit print nothing happens and no printing begins. This is across the board on all apps, except for the Photos app - I am able to print from the Photos app on both iPads and iPhones. Does anyone have any advice for fixing this issue? I even tried to use Wifi Direct, and that still did not work for printing. I have read everything I can find on this topic, but have not been successful in troubleshooting.
Additionally, does anyone know if HP offers techs to come out and fix the problem? I spent nearly eight hours trying to get a replacement printer and I would much rather have someone come out like a Geek Squad type thing, rather than go through this again. Thanks so much!

@whyamidoin, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Since your original HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP 3301fdw worked fine with iPhones and iPads, and the replacement doesn't (except from the Photos app), it sounds like an AirPrint or network configuration issue. Here's a step-by-step guide to help resolve it:
Confirm AirPrint Compatibility
Your printer model does support AirPrint, so no worries there. But ensure it's enabled:
- Access the Embedded Web Server (EWS) by typing the printer’s IP address into a browser.
- Navigate to Networking > AirPrint and ensure it’s enabled.

Ensure Devices Are on the Same Network
- Your iPhone/iPad must be on the same Wi-Fi network as the printer.
- Avoid using guest networks or VPNs that may isolate devices.
Update Printer Firmware
Outdated firmware can cause AirPrint issues.
- Visit the HP Support page and enter your printer model.
- Download and install the latest firmware update.
Reset Network Settings on the Printer
Sometimes a fresh network setup helps:
- On the printer control panel, go to Settings > Network Setup > Restore Network Settings.
- Reconnect the printer to Wi-Fi using Wireless Setup Wizard.
Restart All Devices
- Power cycle your printer, router, and iOS devices.
- This clears any temporary network glitches.
Try Printing from Other Apps
Since Photos works, test from:
- Safari (open any webpage and tap Share > Print)
- Mail or Notes
- If these fail, it confirms an AirPrint communication issue.
Use HP Smart App as a Workaround
If AirPrint still fails, try printing via the HP Smart app:
- Download from the App Store.
- Add your printer and try printing documents or web pages.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
