Hi all,

Have recently purchased a new HP DeskJet 2600 All-in-One series printer for uni. While trying to set it up to print wireless, it asks me for a password when connecting to the printer on the wifi. I'm not sure what password this is, and even if I know for sure it's asking for the password of regular wifi that will be tricky because I'm on a university network so it isn't just a case of entering a password, I have to use my email and a password to connect to it.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I am a bit rubbish with technology so it may be something really simple!

Thanks

If you connected to the University wireless, you do need the password to connect a wireless device to their wireless network.

If your dorm / university provides a Wireless service that connects your computer to their Wireless network, and if they have given you the password to connect to that network, you can perhaps use the same password to connect a printer.  Chances are, though, that you are not allowed to use the university bandwidth for your personal printer.  (This is an opinion based on nothing more than guessing.)

You can use a Wireless Direct connection between your computer and your printer without the need for a router.  Wireless Direct allows you to print wirelessly to that printer.  The catch is that Wireless Direct does not work if you are "out of range" of the printer itself.  For example, you cannot be sitting across campus in class and think, "Oh, I will print the contents of my new document to my printer while I sit here."

Wireless Direct setup, that is, how to use the service, how it works, the requirements, and any restrictions, are explained in your printer User Guide

Document and video help is available in your printer's Website Support.

For example:

Category Software and Drivers

Scroll down to Related Videos > Show all > select a video

Lots of documents in the "how-to" section...

Category How-to

Select Topic:  Wireless, Networking & Internet

Select Subtopic:  Wireless Connections & Networking

For example,

Printing with Wi-Fi Direct

Wireless Printer Setup (Windows)

HP Video Gallery

  • Use Categories and the search window to narrow the search.

For example,

Category Printers and All-in-Ones > Networking and Wireless

Category Printers and All-in-Ones > Install, Setup, Drivers

Enter in the search box, Wireless Direct

  • Select your Video

Reference and Resources – Places to find (more) help and learn about your Printer
