Once you sign up -- and the process to start your service is completed (eligibility, credit card check, administration tasks) -- HP will then send the special Ink Cartridges that are used with the Instant Ink service.
If you are concerned that you are out of ink "now" and you need to print, contact Instant Ink support and plead your case ("Hurry! I need ink as soon as possible!") or elect to purchase some regular ink to use while you wait for the Instant Ink cartridges to arrive and the service to begin.
When you have time, do take a look at the documentation and video links.
Good Luck and I hope you enjoy the service once it starts.

Print with the ink you have for now.
You do not have to purchase Instant Ink -- the special ink cartridges are provided as part of the Instant Ink subscription service.
HP will send you the Instant Ink cartridges at which time you can install them and start your Instant Ink service.
Visit the Instant Ink websites for more information.

Thank you for your very prompt reply. My non instant ink catridges are virtually empty now. Will HP send me catridges as a result of signing up for instant ink to which I then use as and when required? The reason I ask this is it is not going to be able to detect that my printer is almost out of ink.
Many thanks indeed
