My Hp Envy 4500 printer won't print. It says updating could take a few minutes.  Afterwards it still won't print or do copies. Paper isn't blocked in it.

Hi @Richie70

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thank you for sharing the details. I understand that your HP Envy 4500 printer is showing an update message and afterwards it still does not print or copy, even though paper is loaded correctly.

Let’s go through the recommended steps to restore functionality:

Restart the Printer

  • Power off the printer completely.
  • Disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and from the wall outlet.
  • Wait at least 60 seconds, then reconnect and power it back on.

Update via HP App

  • Open the HP App on your Windows device.
  • Select your printer from the home screen.
  • Go to Printer Settings > Advanced Settings > Firmware Update.
  • Ensure the update completes successfully. If it already shows updated, proceed to the next step.

Run Diagnose & Fix in HP App:

Clear Print Queue

  • On your Windows device, open Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners.
  • Select your HP Envy 4500, click Open queue, and cancel all pending jobs.
  • Try printing a fresh test page.

Re‑add the Printer in HP App

  • If the issue persists, remove the printer from the HP App.
  • Restart the app, then add the printer again by following the guided setup.

Please try these steps carefully in order. Once completed, let me know if the printer is able to print or copy again.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
