Printer is online, HP Smart recognizes it and says it's ready to print. When I send a job, it says "Printing" on my Android phone, but job never prints. Eventually get "Job Status Unknown" error. Tapping that leads to HP Smart app saying "Error, check printer," and there's no indication job was sent to actual printer. Printer has been unusable for months, tempted to toss the thing and go elsewhere for printing needs.

Hi @neonaeon ,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are facing an issue with your HP OfficeJet 8015e printer is showing online and recognized by the HP Smart app but not completing print jobs, especially since it's been ongoing for months. Let’s try to troubleshoot this issue so you can avoid needing to replace the printer.
Steps to troubleshoot the printing issue:
1. Check the printer's connection:
- Wi-Fi Status: Ensure the printer is connected to the correct Wi-Fi network. You can try disconnecting and reconnecting to the network.
- Printer Restart: Restart both the printer and your router by powering them off, waiting 30 seconds, and then turning them back on.
- HP Smart App Reconnect: On your Android device, try forgetting the printer in the HP Smart app and re-adding it after restarting.
2. Update Printer Firmware and HP Smart App:
- Printer Firmware: Ensure your printer firmware is up to date. You can check for firmware updates from the HP Smart app (Settings > Printer Settings > Advanced Settings > Tools > Update the printer).
- App Update: Update the HP Smart app to the latest version through the Google Play Store.
3. Clear Printer Queue:
- HP Smart App: Clear any pending or stuck print jobs by going into the print queue in the HP Smart app and cancelling any stalled jobs.
- Android Cache: Clear the cache of the HP Smart app on your Android phone. Go to Settings > Apps > HP Smart > Storage > Clear Cache.
4. Test with another device:
- If possible, try printing from another device (e.g., a computer or another phone) to see if the issue persists. This can help isolate whether it's an Android-specific problem.
5. Reinstall HP Smart on your phone:
- Uninstall and reinstall the HP Smart app to clear out any configuration issues.
6. Print directly without HP Smart:
- On your phone, try printing directly using the Android printing system instead of through HP Smart:
- Go to Settings > Connections > Printing > Default Print Service. Ensure the printer is detected and try printing from other apps, like Chrome or a PDF viewer.
7. Factory Reset the Printer:
- As a last resort, if none of the above works, consider resetting your printer to factory settings:
- On the printer control panel, go to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Restore > Restore Factory Defaults.
