I have 3 devices connected to my new HP Color LaserJet MFP M283fdw, but only the one it's directly plugged in to gets the printing options I need for my projects. I need to print on Extra Heavy Gloss 130g paper, but I have very limited options from the devices using wifi to connect. Is this normal, or am I doing something wrong?

Hi @jctaylor,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you're experience with your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283fdw printer likely stems from the printer driver settings on the devices connected via Wi-Fi. When printing through Wi-Fi, the default drivers provided by Windows might not include all the advanced features and settings, such as the specific paper type options you need for Extra Heavy Gloss 130g paper.

Here's a step-by-step guide to resolving this issue:

1. Ensure the Printer is Properly Installed on Wi-Fi Devices

Check Driver Installation:

Download the Latest Driver:

  • Go to the HP Support Website.
  • Search for "HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283fdw".
  • Download the latest full-feature driver package for Windows 10 (64-bit).

Install the Driver: HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283fdw Software and Driver

  • Run the downloaded driver package on each Wi-Fi-connected device.
  • Follow the installation instructions, ensuring that the printer is added as a network printer.

2. Configure Printer Settings for Wi-Fi Devices

Set Paper Type:

Open Printer Preferences:

  • Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
  • Right-click on your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283fdw printer and select Printing Preferences.

Set Paper Type in Printer Preferences:

  • In the Printing Preferences window, look for a tab or section related to Paper/Quality.
  • Find the Paper Type dropdown menu and select Extra Heavy Gloss 130g.

Apply and Save Settings:

  • Make sure to click Apply and OK to save the settings.

3. Check Printer Firmware Update the firmware on an HP printer

Ensure your printer's firmware is up-to-date:

Download Firmware Update:

  • Go to the HP Support Website.
  • Search for your printer model and download any available firmware updates.

Update Firmware:

  • Follow the instructions provided with the firmware download to update your printer.

4. Configure Print Settings in Applications

Ensure that the print settings within the applications you're using (e.g., Microsoft Word, Adobe Acrobat) are set to use the correct paper type:

Open Print Dialog:

  • In your application, go to File > Print.

Select Printer and Preferences:

  • Choose your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283fdw printer.
  • Click on Printer Properties or Preferences.

Set Paper Type:

  • In the properties window, ensure that the Paper Type is set to Extra Heavy Gloss 130g.

5. Use HP Smart App

You can also use the HP Smart app to manage printer settings:

Download HP Smart:

  • Install the HP Smart app from the Microsoft Store or from HP's website.

Set Up Printer:

  • Open the HP Smart app and follow the instructions to connect your printer.

Configure Settings:

  • Use the app to configure paper type and other settings for your print jobs.
