HP Officejet Pro 8620
Microsoft Windows Vista

I was printing from my computer to my HP Officejet Pro 8620. I completed one job and then I got the next job ready to print.  That's when I got an error, "Out of paper. Load tray." The problem is that the tray was NOT out of paper. The paper tray is loaded and closed properly. I even turned the printer off, left it off for a few minutes, then turned it back on. I am STILL getting the error, "out of paper. load tray." Please help!

No recent software or driver changes. My internet connection is wireless.

Hi kwhite,

Go to An 'Out of Paper' Message Displays for steps that might resolve the issue.

Let me know if that works!

I just followed your steps for solutions 1 & 2.
I turned off the printer; unplugged from the power strip; unplugged the USB cable.
I removed the paper tray; removed the paper; checked the paper.
I dusted out the paper tray and even found a small piece of torn paper (yeah!) and took it out.
I put the paper back in the tray; put the tray in the printer; plugged everything back in; turned on the printer.
I got out of all my programs on the computer; cleared all print jobs.

Started over on the computer; got my document ready to print (test page); control+P; print current page; pressed print.

The error is STILL showing up. Nothing printed. What else can I do?!?! The morning started off so well. I was just going along, printing, and then this error popped up.

Will try solution 3 now.

Not sure if your solution 3 was the problem fixer or the fact that I went ahead and closed all programs and restarted my computer. Whichever it was, thank you very much for responding, for giving useful information. I greatly appreciate your willingness to help.:smileyvery-happy:

had the same problem... and came up with a quick and easy solution.

Select something to print that won't take a lot of ink and choose the plain paper setting.

Take plain paper... I used two and poured 99% alcohol over the top/middle of the sheets.

Insert the sheets into the tray and print on the pages  Each sheet will be picked up and pass through the printer.

This will clean the pick up roller... and will allow you to print again.

God Bless
