Issues and Solution for the benefit of all: I have an HP Printer (5500) and my HP SmartPrint app is one I've used for ages. When I tried to print on the app (via my Apple phone) the green light goes on next to the printer indicating it's online and ready, but the "Print" button in the Print Preview is not activated (it's typically Blue when ready to press and go, but it was light gray). I removed the HP SmartPrint app and replaced it and it worked perfectly. Blue light back on 🙂

Hi @Kimberly129 ,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It's great to hear that you found a solution to the issue with your HP Printer (5500) and the HP SmartPrint app. For anyone experiencing a similar issue where the "Print" button within the HP SmartPrint app does not turn blue, indicating it's ready to print, here's a simplified guide to resolve the problem based on the successful solution shared:
Problem Identification: If your HP Printer shows it's online (indicated by a green light) but the "Print" button in the HP SmartPrint app on your Apple phone remains light gray instead of turning blue, the app may not be properly communicating with the printer.
Solution:
- Step 1: Remove or uninstall the HP SmartPrint app from your Apple phone. This can usually be done by pressing and holding the app icon and selecting the option to delete or uninstall.
- Step 2: Reinstall the HP SmartPrint app. Visit the App Store, search for the HP SmartPrint app, and install it anew on your device.
- Step 3: Open the HP SmartPrint app and attempt to print again. The "Print" button should now activate (turn blue), indicating it's ready to print.
Confirmation: Confirm the solution worked by observing the "Print" button turn blue and successfully printing your document.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
