HP OfficeJet Pro 9015e All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I use a high-speed, Ethernet-exclusive Windows 10 64 Bit workstation (it has no WiFi capability) that I manually connect to a VPN everytime I boot up.  I would like to print from that PC (when it is connected to the VPN) to a WiFi-connected HP 9000 series printer in the next room.  I already use that printer over WiFi from a WiFi-connected  laptop and iPhone using HP Smart app.  I have installed HP Smart on the Ethernet PC,  so the app it shows the printer as a possible option, but cannot connect to it.  Is it possible to use HP WiFi Direct (or its predecessor, Wireless Direct) to print from the Ethernet-PC on the WiFi printer?  Or is there an alternative solution?

Hi,

You would likely not be able to access the printer through a network connection while connected to a VPN network, please check with your company IT if any such is even supported, in most cases a VPN connection restricts access to local network resources while connected to a corporate VPN due to security reasons.

Please disconnect from the VPN network and install the printer via HP Smart then, a VPN connection will prevent any such as described by the support document:

https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/ish_1716406-1413451-16

Try printing and scanning and check for any difference, then try connecting the VPN network and check if you may still able to print, if not it is from the reason described above..

You may disconnect from the VPN connection and print through a network connection, or else you May connect the printer with a USB cable to your PC and print regardless of any active VPN connection.

Whether VPN is on or off, HP Smart installed on Ethernet only PC shows the printer but cannot connect to it.  Anyone have any other ideas?
