Officejet Pro 8500A
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Device:

Product Name - HP Officejet Pro 8500 A910

Product Model # - CM756A

Firmware version - LRP1FN1621DR

Network: Wireless - DHCP (manual ip reserved by router) DNS (OpenDNS IP's)

Background:

I have no issues enabling web services. It enables just fine. I have a custom email address set to use ePrint. Sending to that eMail address works fine and documents print. It has a connection to HP Connected site. I can see all the options and settings. Shows online and active. Checked the local printer page browsing through IP address. Web Services shows registered.

Problem:

When I click on the printer screen icon for Apps it shows trying to connect to server then it gives me an error message. Connection Error. The printer was unable to connect to the server. Check your internet connection and try again. Would you like to retry? Yes I retried. I went to settings disabled App under Web Services settings and re-enabled. Tried again without success. Obviously the printer has an internet connection as Web services wouldn't even be enabled and I wouldn't be able to ePrint to the printer from a remote email.

Why isn't it connecting? Also tested manually setting DNS to Google DNS (not much different than OpenDNS) in the network settings but still no success.

Actually I called and spoke another tech. The issue is my printer apps isn't really called printer apps by HP. It was Printables. And I found out they discontinued them so that is why it wont connect. It would have been nice to know this and not have something called one thing when it is called another by HP Support.

@Wingsfan87

Welcome to the HP Forums. I would be happy to help you with your HP Officejet Pro 8500A printer. I understand you are getting problem connecting to the server' error message and you have already done some preliminary troubleshooting.

Don't worry though as I have a few steps to determine the issue and find a solution as well,

  • Close and reopen the printer app.
  • Try to use the printer app later.
  • Confirm your printer is connected to the wireless network.
  • Check for issues with your wireless network.
  • Update the printer firmware.

Click here and refer the steps mentioned under there was a problem connecting to the server error message displays in the document.

Let me know how it goes.

I hope it helps and if you feel I have answered your question and concerns,

Please mark this post as a solution accepted and Kudos would also be appreciated.

Cheers.
