Deskjet 3720
iOS

K has an iPad 4, running ios10. She lives in a care Home, with WiFi available, although quite slow. She would like to use a HP deskjet 3720 wirelessly with her iPad. After several attempts we have managed to connect the printer to the WiFi network, using the IP address. We have installed the hp smart app. We can use the app to get the printer to print test reports, and check ink levels. But Pages, Notes and any other app we have tried, cannot find the printer. The printer and the iPad are both connected to the same network.

Hi Klp2,

Welcome to HP Forums,

This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips,

Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you out 🙂

As I understand you are unable to print from the smart app

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help you with this issue.

I suggest you to uninstall the current Hp smart app

Follow the below steps to resolve the issue.

  1. Make sure your Apple iOS device is connected to the same wireless network that your current printer is connected to, or that you want to connect a new printer to.

  2. On your Apple iOS device, download and install the HP Smart app (in English) from the App Store.

  3. After installation, open the app, and then tap Start.

Tapping Start on the welcome screen
  4. Accept the terms and conditions, and then tap Continue.

The app searches for printers connected to the network.

    • If you have one printer already connected to the wireless network, the app automatically selects your printer. If you have more than one printer on the network, tap the plus sign , and then select your printer from the list.

    • If you are setting up a new printer on a network, tap the plus sign , tap Add Printer, and then follow the on-screen instructions to complete the printer setup.

I have tried all this several times.

the printer connects to the WiFi.

the iPad is connected to the same WiFi.

i connected the printer to the iPad using the printer IP address

the printer will print from the hp smart app, so I could print a photo, for example.

it will not print from anything else, eg email or pages.

because K lives in a residential home, we have no control over the router.
