Hi there @Ly102, and welcome to HP Support Community!
Thank you for reaching out with your concern. I'm glad to assist you today.
If your HP ENVY 7800 printer is using too much ink and producing unclear or overly saturated photo prints when printing from your phone, here are a few steps to help resolve the issue:
Check Photo Paper Settings
Make sure the printer is set to the correct paper type:
- Open the HP Smart app or your phone’s print settings.
- Select Photo Paper or Glossy Paper if you're using photo paper.
- Incorrect settings (e.g., plain paper) can cause excess ink usage and poor quality.
Use High-Quality Photo Paper
- HP recommends using HP Advanced Photo Paper or HP Premium Plus Photo Paper for best results.
- Low-quality or incompatible paper can cause ink to bleed and reduce clarity.
Update Printer Firmware
Outdated firmware can affect print quality:
- Visit Official HP® Support and enter your printer model (HP ENVY 7800).
- Download and install the latest firmware.
Print from HP Smart App/HP App
Ensure you're using the HP Smart app for printing photos:
- Download from HP Smart
- Open the app, select your photo, and choose Best Quality in print settings.
Clean Printheads
Ink smearing or unclear prints may be due to clogged printheads:
- On the printer control panel, go to Settings > Tools > Clean Printhead.
- You may need to run this a couple of times for optimal results.
Check Ink Levels
Low ink can also cause poor photo quality:
- Use the HP Smart app or printer control panel to check ink levels.
- Replace any low or empty cartridges with genuine HP ink.
Print a Diagnostic Page
To check for alignment or quality issues:
- Go to Settings > Tools > Print Quality Report.
- This can help identify if there's a hardware issue affecting photo clarity.
